Oppo Find 5 won't see Android 4.4 KitKat update

22 August, 2014
The reason is that Qualcomm hasn't provided Oppo with the binary drivers for the APQ8064 to support KitKat.

Dear fellow mobile lovers, We have the solution in our hands using the network power to bring down this fools who think they are holding us at Ransome to buy unsupported divices for hundreds of dollars. If oppo does not give an update support for their phones. Let's unite and don't buy any of their future upcoming release because it will still end up without latest update support. Together we can stop them. Let's air our voices so louder that they will see that our hard earn income worth a hard working, better and trust worthy service. Let's do it. Its time.

Well, if "Qualcomm hasn't provided the hardware binaries for the Snapdragon APQ8064 chipset to run Android 4.4", where did CyanogenMod get those binaries? They have at least 3 releases based on kitkat fo the FIND 5...

Apple generally updates their hardware to the latest OS for a couple of years and often longer.

        same thing for xiaomi mi2s..
it has apq8064t and don't receive android kitkat..
And i think that Xiaomi as Oppo don't buy some kind of license to use Qualcomm bonary for their products..
otherwise other brand has update officially to kitkat without problems
Maybe it's useful to start a petition..

However no good...i think we can stop to buy phones without a real and serious support..

When a phone is bought, its like "don't expect much of software flexibility/updates". Most phones are stuck with the software they are bundled with, Atmost a version or 2 bump in software(in Android though we have Cyanogen Mod for some phones). And users are stuck with artificially outdated "SMARTPHONES". This has to change soon, like in the case of computers/laptops.

That's a lie. The Xperia Z/ZL have the same chipset. They have 4.4.

Sure the binaries and more importantly the source code for compiling their kernel modules exists but for some reason Quallcom isnt giving it to Oppo. Maybe its part of a licensing deal that Oppo has opted out of to save a few bucks.

kris, 22 Aug 2014Lies and more lies. The binaries for APQ8064 are out there.... moreSadly, it's all because of money. Independent developers have nothing to lose (except maybe their spare time) and there's respect, recognition and experience to be earned.

Corporations, on the other hand, have little to win abd much to lose (development has it's price, so does deployment and support for newer OS versions).

In the end, it's all a scheme designed to push consumers into buying their new hardware. Apple is less offending in this respect.

This is nonsense, all arch drivers since the Snapdragon S1 series are still being maintained over in the current CAF kernel 3.4. The same goes for the Adreno 3xx drivers which are updated on a monthly basis. Oppo is just too lazy to support their older devices.

Lies and more lies. The binaries for APQ8064 are out there. A single person can make a KitKat ROM in his spare time but a company with dozens of software engineers can't?

Another reason for not buying cheap and unknown branded phone. They would be left alone even faster than the mainstream ones (Samsung and HTC with Galaxys3 and HTC One X). They all just try to force the customers do do an upgrade so they would buy their latest phone.
