I think all this talk about a new handset is just rumours. I cant see apple bringing out a new handset despite there past history of never keeping anything the same. 3.0 is simply just a software upgrade and not update. Another reason i feel there may not be a new handset is because apple have already in my eyes created the best phone in the world to date, so why would they want to replace and risk ruining it.

In 2008 total smartphone sales:
1. Nokia - 60 million
2. RIM - 23 million
3. Apple - 11 million
So Apple's one phone a year outsold SE, Samsung, and Motorola SMARTPHONE LINE. You know how many smartphones Nokia and RIM push out a year to get those kind of sales? It really is a no-brainer. Plus they are generating some revenue on the App store.
I owned an iphone and didn't especially love it, but to bash it by calling it crap is really going too far. Honestly, if HALF the people on here who claimed that a 5MP camera in a phone is barely enough ACTUALLY BOUGHT ONE the sales on these high end camera phones would be higher. But you get a fair share of b.s. going on.
With current technology a cellphone camera just does not cut it vs a regular camera. The biggest news coming out was that "maybe fake" samsung camera phone supporting 3X optical zoom. A low end camera has 4X optical zoom. Yes, you only want to carry around one device but what is the point of paying $500 for a high end cameraphone that one part is a great phone and the other is a below average camera when you can get a great phone for $250 and a great camera for $250?

I think it's fake. One thing about OS 3.0 is that the "SMS" icon is supposed to become "Messages". The "3G" icon on the top looks like it's from the older firmwire (like 2.0 or 2.1?).

Because i use iPod touch. And i would like to let u know the extra feature that is not covered in the spec sheet.
Except the phone feature, radio and camera (which i fulfill it by Nokia 5610)
Surfing internet, check mail, xpressmusic, Read lecture slide when on bus, ex-harddisk,
Serving as touch pad for my old notebook, record my voice for review the lecture,
Google map let me find the place to go, open the file attach with mail when offline,
Download music from internet, a lot of game from app store or NES SNES Gameboy ...etc
So don't say that this one is bad those one is good, mine is the best, yours is worse.
Just find the device that suit to you the best.

for the iphone fans that are claiming they would rather use a real camera photos, that is your preference. However, why carry a smartphone and a separate camera when out in public where you can carry an all around handset such as the n-series, samsung smartphones, SE smartphones, LG, etc..etc. We are heading to the future (as David mentioned). An all around handset would be much preferable. the iphone obviously isn't one at this time. the 3.5 mp that will be added to the iphone is enough, but a powerful camera flash would be great to accomodate the large brilliant touchscreen and the added mp.
I have used the iphone 2g and 3g before, but sold them. Now, I am using an n95 and the 5800 touchscreen. I don't have to bust out a separate camera in public for photos. my n95 does it for me or my 5800 touchscreen.
apple needs to consider this equation: missing features + an upgrade camera with a powerful flash + the brilliant touch screen interface = ONE SWEET APPLE.
by the way i talked to an apple representative in the apple store in regards to the new iphone. he mentioned that the upgrade will be the 3.0 software, therefore the exterior will remain the same.

but 2.3 is is still on every iphone till 3.0 is released sad
