Samsung Galaxy S III (2012, May), Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 + 1Gb RAM, and slow with the nearly one year old android..
Apple iPhone 4 (2010, June), Single-core 1 GHz Cortex-A8 + 512Mb RAM, and still has an acceptable speed with the 7.x iOS..
So why does the iphone need quad core, if the 4 years ago iphone still faster like the 2 years ago android.. And quad core eat 2x more battery like the dual core, need 2x more recharge time to get the bigger battery to 100%, and all of this for nothing? it still faster, with less cores..
So why does the iphone need 540ppi, if you can't see the different.. 5s only has 326 ppi, and the display is clear, without any pixels.. this big numbers only good for the incompetent users.. if they say their phone run on 100 frame/sec you will say wow, but a clever user will know, there is no different after 25 frame/sec..
Because of the unskilled programers generated programs at the google need more powerfull phones, and they can use that bigger specifications numbers in the marketings (we are faster, we has more ram, bigger screen, but they never say that, our phone suck the battery 2x faster like the others.. how many android running with less than 2000mAh battery? or even 1560 mAh battery).. but if you can thinking, and you see the other phones can do faster with less ressources, there is something wrong..

Enjoy 2012 tech @ 2014 premium price then and let the Droids do the serious work like post processing, multitasking etc. Take some low res pictures and use your photoshop skills to sort the mess. Even if I take full 21MP pictures, the 5S's camera is slower. Common actions take almost twice as much on the iPhone, due to those irritating animations that are added to make the OS seem fluid despite the phone being just slow.
Yes, Apple's processors are well designed, true. But ARM is a fixed instruction set, and you can only optimize so much: in the end an instruction still needs to go through the pipeline at the core's clock rate, and you can't optimize away a 80% clock advantage and 100% core count advantage under the same ISA within a given technological generation.
