Say what? The iPhone can make voice calls??? I thought it was just for showing off how fanatical you are about the Apple religion. Do you have to buy that voice call app in the App Store?? How much is it?? Or do you have to wait for the 4th-gen to get the ability to make voice calls??

As a fanboi of no particular manufacturer but just love technology no matter who makes it i wanted to push my views on this as i dont like the harsh words being spoken here and anger seemingly apparent on here.
I have had Samsung, HTC, Nokia, LG, Motorola and SE phones throughout the years. Always go for the top spec stuff as i love my gadgets. Always fancied an iphone and was close many times but always held back by the high UK pricings (o2!) and the one network restriction which i think they shouldnt be able to do but MAINLY down to the low spec hardware and missing features.
Yeah it's gorgeous, yeah it's brilliant to use as an OS, yeah it's got the best apps bar none! BUT why such a dogs mess camera with no flash, awful lack of pixels, only just gone autofocus (Whoopee!) and only just released video recording, AND WITH AUDIO! (yeah thanks for ancient technology Apple), even though i'm not a camera only geek this is awful. Also, where has been the tethering for the past 2 years!? Every other manufacturer has had that on many of their models for so long! Where's the current standard of screens such as OLED?! Where's the Bluetooth file transfer?! Why is it so hard and now momentous to implent MMS?! Come on!
I genuinely was looking forward to yesterday as it could've grasped me as a new customer which i WAS hoping for but they just aren't moving forward at the required rate that other manufacturers take for granted.
iPhone lovers please understand i wanted this to be good so not here to slag but ultra disappointed with the new model.
iPhone haters, don't be vicious, just factual and fair.
Regards all, from a disappointed and having wanted to be convinced potential apple owner but just haven't been.

Did they fix the voice communications issues? The previous generation iPhone had poor volume and little & no noise cancellation making them unusable in louder enviroments. A phone that can not function for voice communications has little to no value to me.

Maybe, since we are already iPhone 3G users, the iPhone 3Gs is not targeted to us. That's why we could avail of the new software update for free. I think that the new iPhone's target market are those who don't have one yet... and since it has better features now, they might consider buying one already. But I understand your point. There is very little difference between the 3G and 3Gs so we don't have to buy the new one. It won't make sense anyway.

I have a 3G and don't use the camera anyway so doesn't really bother me, but there isn't anything to make me want the new one. What Apple could have done is not release software 3.0 for older models, making it exclusive to the 3Gs. If the 3Gs was the ONLY I-phone (at present) to other p2p connection via bluetooth, A2DP bluetooth music streaming and picture messaging, as well as all the other great features, then it would seem a lot better, but as you can add these to your 3G handset, it seems pointless to release a new device when there's no MAJOR difference.

Okay guys, enough... Let's not be too harsh on the new iPhone. Like me, i'm sure everyone is disappointed coz we were expecting more features. Let's give Apple a chance. After all, a high-end smartphone is not just all about the camera. 2 MP, 3 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, or 12 MP, it doesn't matter much coz you won't be needing a picture of that resolution most of the time. GSMArena, itself, claimed that even SE Satio, Samsung Pixon, and other highend camera phones won't be able to replace highend digital cameras. Although, they would make a good substitute. So, if camera is important to you guys, just buy a decent digital camera like the Sony Cybershot or Canon Ixus.
Going back to the new iPhone, i think it offers some nice new features like the compass, voice guided GPS, being able to revert the screen, and the guide for the impaired. That's something not all phones can offer.

I-phone 3.0 software will allow peer-to-peer connection via bluetooth (ie transferring files like music and photos) on the I-phone 3G and I-phone 3Gs.
I'm confused as to why they've released a new handset alongside the new software. When you install the 3.0 software onto an I-phone 3G, there's not too much difference. Let's face it, an upgrade from 2MP to 3MP isn't exactly something that would make you trade your 3g in for a 3gs, is it? There will be a lot of Apple fanboys/fangirls rushing to get this just because it's the latest product, which will be great for me as I work in a phone shop, but won't stop me thinking their mugs as they walk out the door with their new I-phone 3Gs.

I just preordered my new Iphone 16 gig 3GS and I'm really excited. I feel like the new Iphone adds alot to the arsenal, and it now has all of the basic features that most other phones have, plus many extras that make the Iphone the amazing phone it is. The incredible RAM and processor upgrade helps tremendously, as well as the 16 gig internal memory. Auto Focus camera is something I've wanted since forever and I'm thrilled to finally be getting one, as well as a capable video recorder. Like they say, 3rd times the charm :)

Apple just regurgitated the Iphone and it stinks! I was really looking forward to the new Iphone but look at it, it's just a Iphone with an 's' behind it. Aah well, looks like apple's taking nokias's route.

Why Couldn"t Apple offer a software or firewall update so the 3g mobile gets the same speed,£450 for a sim free mobile is very expensive indeed,so Apple get a smaller version released to cut the price down
