If only Microsoft didn't lock down Windows Phone OS too much, I'm 100% certain by now WP will be the #1 smartphone OS worldwide.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why WP market share is always small.

Microsoft will be on top only if Windows 10 only-OS concept succeeds. Lets hope for the best.

I am using WP for a year now and after 8.1 upgrade I find it very pleasant to use.
More importantly - I am supporting it as it would be shame to loose the third player on the market - monopoly is never good and once established, very difficult to change.

They are just as "popular" as the Surface hybrids. If Microsoft paid even more shows/movies to use them then they would be even more "popular" (in a bubble that means very little to the real world).

Same rules apply for everyone, there is no "multiplication magic", only different release cycles.

A single innovation in device and/or software design can be a game changer. 1. What made the original iPhone (or iPod Touch for those of us in the UK whose first glimpse of 'iPhone OS' was that, not the yet to be released in the UK iPhone) stand out was one feature: Pinch to zoom! The whole way you interacted with photos and other content was so (at the time!) Star Trek like, it was awesome. Smooth and responsive. (I have an original iPhone and it's still fast at browsing content.) 2. The way Windows (8/phone?) automatically splits the display in half when you click a link in an email etc is a huge productivity time saver - I just found out as a lifelong Mac user after buying a Windows RT equipped Lenovo Yoga ideapad 11. (Great machine!) 3. On the LG G3, unknown to most people, you can customize the Android navigation controls at the base of the display (Home, Back, Tasks), in particular, add a Show/Hide Notifications Panel control icon! I cannot tell you how useful this is from an ergonomics stand point! No more reaching for the top of the phone display to show or dismiss notifications. Just tap the icon! These three (at the time ground breaking) features on three different platforms could each make someone buy a device or choose a specific platform. If MS keep innovating and improving Windows, then they will be able to fight back as the word spreads.

Windows phone OS is vibrant and a refreshing change from Android

The Windows phone model has followed too much the Apple ecosystem and NOT enough Android

I hate for example NO camera settings so must take an 8MP photo, whereas on Samsung and Sony I can select setting up to 8Mp, and NOT just have 8MP. Why not just have volume brightness set at max.
Nokia & Symbian you had these settings but on Windows let’s copy Apple

Some of the W8 apps on are far superior to the Android equivalent

There are a vast number of W8 Apps that simply are dire, and some NOT updated in years, released don’t work, negative review and there they sit!

In August 2014 the Cyan update was released and DENIM is promised before 2015

Each W8 release is a giant step and adds a great deal of functionality

Microsoft should just purge the bad apps, and introduce a higher standard (i.e. APPS that are show to works)

The hardware side Nokia has got it licked, but when asked I say hardware is very good but secondary apps are rubbish and Microsoft is playing a numbers game and NOT the quality.

A little honesty on Microsoft part as every time I hear a negative comment it is about Apps not working, or why only the beta version.

You do see more and more Windows phones being used in film and on TV.

Dave Granger, 02 Oct 2014I'd assume the iPhone 6 launch is too recent to appear in t... moreit's actually not significant since this is compared to last year, the same period.

However, with the larger screen of the iPhone 6 things could potentialy change.
But I think Apple needs a Twice a Year update cycle. The others simply have nice enough devices to steal the Apple spotlight that far after the last iPhone release.
