is there something really original and new in digital media in this digital world? TECHNOLOGY must be open source.for example MP3's ? FLAC? ALAC? same category different codings,. Laws in PATENT is business related called profit. Did someone patented ABC alphabet.? maybe ALL people needed to pay its owner for royalties for using HIS/HER alphabet.

I'm not a Samsung (phone) fan at all, but Microsoft are just as greedy as Samsung, Apple, Google, Facebook etc., when chasing revenues. Hopefully, in the next 6 months to a year, I'll be done with Microsoft's PC OS (hoping to not even move from Windows 7 to 10, and never have anything to do with them again). Really want to make Linux work out, instead.

They are chasing the WRONG things and finally it has even caught up with their engineering resulting in shoddy products, instead they rely more on marketing. At least once upon a time, fanboys could actually say they were high performing products. Now even that can be challenged.

How exactly can Samsung buy Microsoft? It would be great if Samsung suddenly stops producing things for other companies. That would basically put it out of business. The public fallout, loss of revenue, legal costs for breaking contracts, the boost for competitors, cost of idle PPE, shareholder backlash to name a few things they would have to contend with. Stop drinking so much of the S-Kool Aid.

What I don't understand about the agreement is.. Why does Samsung have to pay royalties to Microsoft for every Android it sells? I think Android belongs to Google, not Microsoft?

If Samsung stops partnership with every other companies, Samsung has nothing to lose! Samsung is too rich to care about those patents. Samsung can literally buy out microsoft at this point.
