Android, 07 Oct 2014In addition as mentioned in the article, Apple did NOTuse S... moreyou also have to remember that with apple, its all about the brand identity - the "hey im special" feeling when someone has an iDevice. So people have a premium feeling device in their hands.

it also comes down to cost effectiveness for the company - whats going to be the cheapest option to mass produce and at the same time, the maximum profit bringer

Dododo, 07 Oct 2014Also, the headline of this article is wrong. Filing for ... moremuch like phones 4u in the uk - full bankruptcy was filed even though there was still plenty of cash in the bank, but that case was unique due to the fact that that it had noproducts (networks) to sell - so could this be the same for GT advance? having the ability to trade, with cash in the bank, but not having anyone to supply it with the materials for business?

or is it a ploy so that apple can swoop in and make the "white knight" rescue?

Also, the headline of this article is wrong.

Filing for Chapter 11 is generally called protection from creditors, as it allows a company to reorganize.

Filing for Chapter 7 is what most people call bankrupt, where the company ceases operations.

GT Advanced is still operating and as it has over 86 million in cash, there is a good chance that it will e around for a while.

GORILLA GLASS 3 IS ION_STRENGHTENED GLASS.

In fact, Apple's iPhone was why Corning went into mass production ion-strenghtened glass, or Gorilla Glass.

QUOTE: Ion strengthened means the display glass has undergone a chemical process which causes sodium ions in glass to be replaced by potassium ions, the same process Corning uses for its Gorilla Glass 3.

Shaun, 07 Oct 2014Am not surprise of this and any other company that supplies... moreIn addition as mentioned in the article, Apple did NOTuse Sapphire Glass for whatever reason.

Instead of going back to Gorilla Glass Apple use the even CHEAPER shatterproof glass in both the iPhone6 & iPhone6+.

No doubt in a year Gorilla glass (if Sapphire is no longer an option) Gorilla glass will be cited as an upgrade in the iPhone6S

Somehow Apple will have to to back and pay GT Advance a more commercial for the use of Sapphire glass on iPhones.

It is clear that the business cannot survive on watches alone and supply will cease if GT Advance fails

It make you wonder what is in he mindset of Apple who wil pay $3 billion for Beats Music, but won't opted for a cheaper (not Sapphire Glass proper) composite of sapphire glass layer

                  2. I never made any comment on fairness or anything, I just said "Buy cheap sell expensive" was how the system generates profit, not just Apple. In fact I just commented on that one sentence and you've somehow generated an entire rant based on something I didn't say. So see 1 re: generalisation.

                  3. See 1. Again.

                      2) You're really just wrong. A lot of big companies want to make fair deals with each other, because they're going to have to do business again later. People have this narcissitic power fantasy about how brutal "capitalism" is. But there's actually a lot of different ways to do business and you can't generalize in the way you did. What happens in reality is much more varied.

                      3) But Apple is brutal. They have this great image, but they're amongst the worst. They treat their suppliers badly, they look for every loop hole in the law, they are an anti-competitive patent troll pariah, they broker illegal deals to suppress the wages of everyone in silicon valley, they steal ideas and are brilliant at convincing everyone they invented them. They're just nasty. Their like an oil company.

That's not unique to Apple, that's Capitalism. The whole system is rife with this, or else profit would not exist.
