Phones with both 3.5mm audio output and micro-USB charging? Plenty from the American brand, from Zn5, A1210, to A3100, EM35, EM30, E8, etc...

For the rest, one can probably use Bluetooth headset, if music can't be stopped while phone is being charged.

Nice to have the EU bring similar changes to audio ports, 3.5mm standard for all ;P,
      --------------------------------------

It is time to do away with this freaking 3.5 mm jack. It is huge monster by today's standards. I think there is 2.5 mm audio jack. This the one which must be promoted for audio. Not 3.5.

Good. Finally we are moving to the same type of interface for all devices. I guess USB will be used not only for charging but for other types of communications and device control.

Anonymous, 29 Jun 2009Looks like you people can`t see behind this new rule. Let m... moreIn fact, these news are old. EU made this regula a long time ago (year or more). Don't know why GSMArena put the news that late. But thats not what I wanted to say. EU started to make this regula realy long time ago. Even before Apple could imagine about phone. The mine idea of this regula is resurse saving and green thinking. If you buy a phone withouy a charger, you can save up to 1/5 or even more of box size. So in every truck that delivers a cell phones from countr to countr, can handle for 20% more phones at a time. So less trucks needed to deliver phones, so - less pollution! And pollution is reduced even on manufacturing cost! Plus less garbage, less utilization of old chargers, etc. just think! You don't need a new charger if you stay with Nokia all the time, because it's a waste of resources. Why not to have a standart charger if you migrate from manufacturer to other? Great idea.

PS. About your Apple fanatism. I bet you are from USA. There Apple have an impact on customers, no matter how they acquire that. In EU Apple is usual manufacturer which is lower than LG, Samsung or any other manufacturer.

I don't know, but won't it add to the cost of say low end phones like Nokia 1100 series? I thought making proprietary connectors increased a company's sales coz if we lost a data cable we'll have to again buy it from se noki moto instead of buying a (usu. low cost) generic one? But I think its a real useful decision. No more mess of old data cables!

Andrija, 29 Jun 2009I do not share the enthusiasm, what about charging speed ? ... moreIt won't hurt your battery, don't worry. Look at it like this: you can connect to the computer AND charge your battery at the same time. I used to do it on an old Motorola all the time, it never complained and the battery stayed as good as new.

bringing this kind of standard its a better idea becouse we have been having hard time incase your charger is lost or distroyed then u had to buy another one and at times to get the original one you have to sufer so the idea is fantastic.

...Motorola has been using USB for years, first Mini now Micro.

By making the iPhone 3GS exactly the same size and shape as the 3G, Apple has made sure that ALL accessories will fit, not only chargers they are also one of the only manufacturers that only use one cable, not two or more.

Some phones come with a charger, a data cable and an AV cable.

Maybe everyone should use the Nokia POP port!!

Car kits are being ripped out all over the place.
