OnePlus Open 2 and Oppo Find N5 to pioneer Qualcomm’s seven-core Snapdragon 8 Elite

Last week, Qualcomm listed a version of its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite with one less CPU performance core, which is expected to make its debut on upcoming phones later this year. It remains to be seen how Qualcomm will market the "new" SoC, which is listed with the SM8750-3-AB identifier.

Qualcomm’s seven-core Snapdragon 8 Elite to be used on upcoming ''Slim'' and foldable phones

Tipster Yogesh Brar believes that this chip will be used on the upcoming crop of Slim and foldable phones. For reference, Samsung is expected to launch a Galaxy S25 Slim, which is rumored to measure 6.4 mm and more Android OEMs are expected to hop on the Slim trend later this year.

In addition, foldable phones have been slimming down in the past years, with the upcoming Oppo Find N5 expected to launch as the thinnest foldable to date, somewhere in the 3.7 - 4mm range. The latest rumor suggests that the Find N5 will be the first device to launch with the new seven-core Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and its OnePlus Open 2 doppelganger should follow suit.

We also get word that the hepta-core Snapdragon 8 Elite offers “slightly better efficiency numbers” than the full-fledged Snapdragon 8 Elite, which makes sense given the absence of one CPU core. We're not expecting any major differences here, but these upcoming thin and light phones will need all the help they can get in the battle with thermal constraints.
