Meizu reaches 30 markets in the first year of its return

Meizu began as a company focused on smartphones but later expanded its range to electric vehicles. Now, the smartphone division is operating as part of the Dreamsmart Group and it's back to global markets.

We had a discussion with Mr. Gu Binbin, executive director of the group and head of overseas operations. He shared that Meizu has successfully entered 30 markets within its first year back on the international stage.

Dreamsmart provided substantial investment for developing, producing, and distributing smartphones. The plans involve Meizu further expanding into Southeast Asia, followed by Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America.

The executive expressed optimism about leveraging the partnership with automaker Geely as vehicles and smartphones are already marketed together in certain regions. Smartphones will initially be offered online in areas where the company enters, but the company is actively establishing agreements with physical retailers.

Meizu traditionally produced phones across all price ranges. Currently, it has offerings in the $100 to $700 spectrum in China, but this isn't mirrored internationally.

Mr. Gu disclosed that the strategy initially focuses on launching midrange devices in overseas markets, with plans to broaden to a greater product range later.
