Oppo demonstrates Find N5 hinge's toughness in latest video

Yordan, 11 March 2025

Oppo introduced the ultra-thin Find N5 foldable in February, and is keen to prove that razor thin and tough can coexist. A newly published YouTube video highlighted the strength of its hinge, demonstrating that four unfolded devices can support a dangling weight of 50 kg.

Check out the video below:

It is important to note that this is conducted in a controlled setting where devices are carefully positioned to ensure maximum strength for the swing that holds the weights. Additionally, there is a person in the swing who may or may not weigh over 50 kg, illustrating the hinges' durability.

This video illustrates that foldable smartphones have become robust. The Oppo Find N5 is certified IPX8 and IPX9 for its resistance to both water immersion and water jets, whereas the Honor Magic V3 withstood significant stress during our test in August 2024.

Durability isn't a concern for the Oppo Find N5, but availability is certainly a challenge. As of now this foldable phone is sold in just a few Asia-Pacific countries.

There is no hinge test. It's a wide strap and tiny hole, 3/4 of the phone's surface support the weight right next to the strap. This is poor PR for people who doesn't understand basic physics.

Impressive, but try weights with a narrower point of contact. Having big flat bottoms spreads the weight across the whole back of the phone. So its not really just testing the "hinge" but the whole surface. A little misleading.
