Samsung could be using LG batteries for the Galaxy S8

Today a new report from South Korea is claiming that Samsung is even willing to work with its main competitor from the country in order to ensure that the Galaxy S8's battery is problem-free. This is understandable, of course, in the wake of the Galaxy Note7 tragedy. An unnamed Samsung executive was quoted as saying the following: "We are looking at diverse suppliers, including LG Chem". This statement was with regard to new efforts by the company to diversify its battery suppliers.

So far, Samsung Electronics has worked with just two - Samsung SDI and ATL. While before the initial Galaxy Note7 recall Samsung believed only SDI-made batteries were faulty, the phones kept catching fire even after that, which means ATL's batteries weren't any better in fact.

Sources from Korea say the battery supply deal between LG Chem and Samsung isn't signed yet, and that we're not very close to that happening. But talks could be underway, which is still significant because Samsung and LG usually avoid buying parts from each other since they fiercely compete in dozens of types of consumer electronic products.
