Use this app to boost the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL displays’ colors

Enrique, 25 October 2017

A new app called Oreo Colorizer may be installed on either the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL to force the display to render more vivid colors. Currently, the display is tuned to show sRGB despite its ability to produce wide-gamut colors in the DCI-P3 color range, this range of colors would be brought out when an app demanded it.

Many aren't satisfied with the current rendition of colors on the Pixel 2 XL, saying that they look muted in comparison to other leading smartphones.

Oreo Colorizer works by using a system overlay that re-renders more vivid colors right on top of the ones that normally are displayed. The app comes with two modes: Standard and Performance. Standard mode only overlays on parts of the screen that are updated while Performance mode constantly updates all colors that are being produced.

The difference is slightly noticeable in these photos.

Standard mode may not work well for playing games or viewing videos, this is where you’d use Performance mode.

Oreo Colorizer is not available on the Play Store, so you must download and install the APK from APKMirror. We remind you that there’s always a risk when installing apps from “Unknown sources”, which you’ll be required to enable if you haven’t done so already.
