Razer Phone video teardown shows a big heat pipe

Vlad, 29 November 2017

A couple of days ago the Razer Phone was put through a grueling scratch, burn, and bend test - and now it's time to take things to the next level. We're talking about a video teardown of the gaming device company's first smartphone. The insides of the Razer Phone are all on display in this production, so if you like your handsets in one piece perhaps do some mental preparation before watching.

It all starts with a razor blade doing nasty things to the Razer Phone's bottom speaker grille, and then the top one is removed too. The screen pops out of the body easier than in the OnePlus 5T, but once you've done that you'll be met by screws everywhere.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about this handset's internals is the massive copper heat pipe, certainly among the biggest in any smartphone. The battery has 'magical' pull tabs, which make it pretty simple to replace.

The vibration motor is similar to Apple's Taptic Engine used in its newer iPhones, but unfortunately Razer went for a much smaller part. It's so tiny that you really shouldn't expect to feel a lot of vibrations coming from it. Unsurprisingly, the Razer Phone's speakers seem to be top notch, and the earpiece one appears to be the exact same size as the bottom one.

The conclusion is that there are better organized smartphones out there (on the inside), but there are also worse offenders. Make sure you watch the entire video for all of the details.

they should put the heat pipe on the back, connecting the heat pipe with aluminum back body that can act as heat spreader

No wonder the RAZER phone heats up badly even with such HUGE copper heat pipe.. Look at that a DOLLOP full of thermal paste separating the copper processor plate and the heat pipe.. At this point the heat pipe is useless as thermal paste is supposed ...
