YouTube app for iOS now plays vertical videos correctly
YouTube has finally updated the iOS version of its app to be able to playback vertical videos correctly. This update was issued to the Android app two and a half years ago but for some reason never came to iOS until now.

With this, users will be able to watch a vertically shot video in the correct aspect ratio. Previously, going fullscreen on a vertical video played it in landscape with massive black bars on the side. Now playing a vertical video in fullscreen keeps the screen in portrait so the video fills your entire screen.
Meanwhile, no fix has been announced for people who still record videos vertically.

When you want to show a "tall scene" you use portrait video, you have to. Also those are meant to be consumed on mobile devices, if you want to watch them on your TV or monitor tough luck, buy one of those that get in portrait mode. IMO it's h...

OK I did a search, it was introduced on Android in 2015. My bad. As for "most people watch YouTube on phones" - well you're right, I remember they said that most people watch a few hours of YouTube every day... But still if I'm watching something ...

Maybe they're not meant for TV or PC. Have you thought about it? Most people watch youtube on their mobiles these days anyway, so it's a moot point.
