First look at Wear OS without Samsung’s 'One UI Watch'

Wear OS 3 is expected to make its debut on non-Samsung smartwatches sometime next month. Until then, we still haven’t seen what Wear OS is supposed to look like without Samsung’s hand in the picture. Remember, Google collaborated with Samsung to power Samsung’s new smartwatches with Wear OS 3 – though it was buried underneath Samsung’s One UI Watch skin.

Reddit u/amoledwatchfaces posted screenshots of Wear OS 3 as seen from the Android Studio Emulator that developers use to test apps. The screenshots show the new smartwatch OS without Samsung’s skin over it.

The UI does look cleaner, but it doesn’t appear that there’s any drastic difference. Aside from larger, curvier buttons and more colorful icons. Menus look cleaner and more visually straightforward.

With Samsung’s latest smartwatches, Google collaborated to bring Wear OS 3 to these smartwatches before any other Wear OS maker could get a change – which sounds kind of unfair to third-party OEMs that made Wear OS smartwatches from the start.
