Meta's new Quest+ subscription service gives you two VR games a month

Peter, 27 June 2023

Owning games on a physical format – be it a disc or a cartridge – is falling out of fashion (at least console makers would like you to believe that). Owning games at all may also be going the way of the floppy disk as subscriptions are becoming more common.

The latest is Meta Quest+, a service aimed at owners of the Meta Quest 2, the upcoming Quest 3 and the pricey Quest Pro (sorry, original Quest owners). Long story short, this is similar to PlayStation Plus.

Quest+ costs $8 a month or $60 if you pay for the full year (that’s $5 a month). Note that if you sign up before the end of July, the first month will cost just $1.

Each month, Meta will hand-pick two games – you get to play those games for as long as you are a Quest+ subscriber. This means that if you cancel your subscription, you lose access to the games. But if you cancel and (at a later date) re-subscribe, Meta will restore access to all the games you had previously.

The first two games are Pistol Whip, a physical action-rhythm FPS, and Pixel Ripped 1995, a nostalgia-fueled virtual reality game-within-a-game. Meta’s goal with the curation of Quest+ is both to give subscribers access to some of the most popular VR titles and to surface some hidden gems.

Meta also revealed the two games that are coming to the service in August, Walkabout Mini Golf, a mini-golf game, and Mothergunship: Forge, a frantic VR FPS roguelite where players craft powerful hand-held weapons.

PlayStation Plus subscribers also get discounts when buying games, at least for now that is not part of Quest+.
