Poco M6 Pro arrives with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, 50MP camera, and 90Hz screen

Sagar, 05 August 2023

As promised, Poco unveiled the Poco M6 Pro today, which is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC and comes in two memory configurations - 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. It also has a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 1TB and runs Android 13-based MIUI 14 out of the box. Poco has promised two major Android version upgrades and three years of security updates without mentioning the latter's frequency.

The Poco M6 Pro is built around a 6.79" 90Hz FullHD+ LCD with 550 nits peak brightness and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Gorilla Glass protects the display, but Poco doesn't specify which one exactly.

The Poco M6 Pro's screen has a centered punch hole for the 8MP selfie shooter. Turn the phone around, and we get a glass back sporting two cameras - 50MP primary and 2MP depth. Fueling the entire package is a 5,000 mAh battery that can draw power through the USB-C port at up to 18W, even though the bundled adapter can go up to 22.5W.

The rest of the Poco M6 Pro's highlights include 5G connectivity, an IR Blaster, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The smartphone also has an IP53 rating. If all this sounds familiar, it's because the Poco M6 Pro is a rebranded Redmi 12 5G introduced earlier this week in India with a different back cover design. However, Xiaomi hasn't made any software promises for the Redmi 12 5G.

Since apparently Xiaomi desided to remove MicroSD from all of their newer devices right when I was planning to upgrade, I might have to go with this, instead of Note 12 Pro as I was planning to. Sad, but it is what it is.

While the switch from OLED to LCD tech is a downgrade by all means, I prefer LCD screens to OLED screens. I'm a light mode boy but I also like long battery life and since Dark Mode saves battery life on OLED screens, I'm kinda forced t...
