Oppo Watch 4 Pro unveiled with ECG and stainless steel body, affordable Watch SE tags along

Oppo unveiled a new flip foldable today along with a couple of watches – one with an advanced sensor suite and one affordable model. We already covered the Find N3 Flip, now let’s have a look at the watches.

Oppo Watch 4 Pro

The Oppo Watch 4 Pro has a design similar to the 3 Pro but has upgrades inside and out. Starting with the outside, the watch body is now made out of stainless steel instead of aluminum, which should make it a bit more durable and it is a bit heavier (52.3g vs. 37.5g).

The steel has been given a brushed finish to contrast with the knurling of the crown. Also, the bottom is made out of ceramic, which is both durable and will avoid any skin issues.

The display is still curved in a gentle arc. It’s a 1.91” LTPO AMOLED panel as before with the same 378 x 396px (326ppi).

There are two versions of the Watch 4 Pro – Polar Night Black, which has a black body and a fluoro-rubber band, and Dawn Brown, which has a champagne color on the body and a brown leather strap.

The watch is equipped with an advanced sensor suite that can give you a 60-second exam by tracking 7 key vital signs. The major components included in the exam are ECG, heart rate, blood vessel age, sleep and stress. It can measure things like blood vessel elasticity, it can detect arterial fibrillation, snoring and more.

Interestingly, this model includes blood sugar monitoring in real time and it will sound the alarm if the values change abnormally. The watch also has a skin temperature sensor (accurate to within 0.1°C).

Like its predecessor, this watch is powered by the Snapdragon W5+ chipset and there is a BES 2700 chip for low-power operation. This year Oppo doubled the RAM to 2GB, the storage remains at 32GB.

The watch runs on a 570mAh battery (a bit larger than last year) and will last up to 5 days in full smartwatch mode, up to 2.5 days with heavy usage. A Light mode can go up to a couple of weeks and fast charging is available, so 10 minutes is enough to last you the whole day (a full charge takes just over an hour).

This watch has an eSIM so it has 4G connectivity on the go. There is NFC too, though for now its functions are China-specific. Also available are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

For exercise tracking, the major positioning satellites are supported and the watch body is rated for 5 ATM water resistance so you can take it in the pool.

The Oppo Watch 5 Pro is available for pre-order in China starting today you can find it on the official Oppo store. Shipments and open sales will commence on September 8.

The Polar Night Black version costs CNY 2,300 ($315/€290/₹26,000), but there is an early bird deal and you can get it for CNY 100 less. The Dawn Brawn model comes with two straps so it is a bit more expensive at CNY 2,500 ($345/€320/₹28,750). Again, there is a CNY 100 discount available if you pre-order.

Oppo Watch SE

While the Pro is advanced and kind of pricey, the Oppo Watch SE is an affordable alternative for those that don’t need cutting edge sensors – or a stainless steel body. The SE is made out of a composite material and has a flat 1.75” AMOLED display (372 x 430px, 326ppi).

One of the downgrades is that it is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 4100, an old 12nm part (compared to 4nm for the W5+). This was the chipset used in the Oppo Watch 2 from 2021 (though that one had a larger 1.91” display). Anyway, the Wear 4100 is paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB storage.

This watch is pretty light at 31g but comes with a decently large 400mAh battery. That should be enough for 3 days (10 days in Light mode). Like its Pro sibling, fast charging ensures a day battery life after just 10 minutes, a full charge takes an hour.

While not a Pro model, the SE also has an eSIM for connectivity on the go without a phone, plus positioning with the major satellite constellations. NFC is available as well, for mobile payments, accessing public transport and so on. Additional connectivity includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

It’s lacking the more advanced sensors, but it still tracks your heart rate 24/7 and can warn you of irregular heart rhythm. It will assess the quality of your sleep too by monitoring your blood-oxygen levels. And it is rated 5 ATM for swimming laps in the pool.

The Oppo Watch SE is available right now on Oppo Shop in China with a base price of CNY 1,000 ($140/€125/₹11,500). This is for the Gray and Purple models (which come with silicone straps), the Dark Brown model with a leather band costs a bit more, CNY 1,100.

Since Galaxy Watch starts having a "not too good" battery life ever since they switched to wearOS, I'm kinda feeling skeptical with this OS...

That could be because it is a China only release. If it ever comes to the global market, it will probably run on wearos.
