OnePlus 11 gets Android 14 on September 25

Vlad, 01 September 2023

In the past couple of days both Apple and Google have unveiled the dates of their upcoming fall launch events, and today OnePlus has an announcement of its own, but this isn't about a new phone - the OnePlus Open's introduction is still up in the air, it seems.

Instead, the company has revealed that it will release stable OxygenOS 14, based on Android 14, on September 25. That's quite an optimistic timeline on OnePlus' part, considering the fact that Google hasn't released stable Android 14 yet.

OnePlus 11 gets Android 14 on September 25

A public beta build of OxygenOS 14 is promised to be released in the coming days for the OnePlus 11, OnePlus 11R, and OnePlus Nord 3. While you may thus assume that all three of those devices are getting the stable release on September 25, the wording is vague enough that we feel the need to caution you here - there was no mention of which specific model(s) will be blessed to run the next iteration of the OS on that day, so we're going to assume it's just going to be the OnePlus 11.

Clearly though, the OnePlus 11R and Nord 3 won't be far behind, even if they don't get it on the same day. It's great to see such a commitment from OnePlus regarding a quick release of a new Android version, and the inclusion of the Nord 3 in the first wave of updates - after all, it is a mid-ranger and sometimes these have to wait for a few generations of flagships to be updated first, before they can have a slice of the pie too.

OxygenOS 14 will have six areas of improvement, according to OnePlus, and these are: CPU Vitalization, RAM Vitalization, ROM Vitalization, HyperBoost, HyperTouch, and HyperRendering. We can't tell you what any of those things mean, however, since OnePlus unfortunately hasn't detailed them yet, but we'll let you know when we find out more.
