Netflix co-CEO says it's not worth launching an app for the Apple Vision Pro yet

Pre-orders for the Apple Vision Pro started off last week and a few days ago analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple has sold between 160,000 and 180,000 units. However, the proud new owners of Apple’s spatial computer won’t be using them to watch Netflix.

Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters was interviewed by Stratechery and was there is no Netflix app on the Vision Pro. Long story short, it’s not worth it – there aren’t enough potential subscribers that own the headset relative to the amount of effort it would take to port the streaming app to the platform.

That is not to say that there will never be a Netflix app on the Apple Vision Pro – Peters is certainly not against it, but for now the company is just waiting to see how the situation will develop.

Netflix isn’t the first company to skip launching a native app for the Apple headset, YouTube and Spotify also have no plans to make dedicated apps (you can use the web browser, of course).

Cupertino’s own Apple TV+ streaming service is available on the Vision Pro and it’s not just a virtual screen – the company launched a new format called “Apple Immersive Video”, which is 180° 3D footage in 8K resolution and with Spatial Audio.

Netflix launched a VR app way back in 2015 and even tapped its popular Stranger Things series to dome a 360° video (although it posted that on YouTube). Netflix has plenty of other VR movies that you can try out too. Just not on the Vision Pro.
