Next-gen BlackBerry platform to be called BlackBerry 10

07 December, 2011

RIM's plans to name its upcoming platform BBX have fallen through because of a certain BASIS International that currently owns the rights to the name who fought for it against RIM in court and managed to prevent RIM from using it.

Unable to use the BBX name anymore, RIM was forced to choose a different one and so at the BlackBerry DevCon Asia, RIM announced that the platform will now be called BlackBerry 10, which, actually, is nothing more than the full form of the original name B(lack)B(erry)X(10).

As to why RIM chose to jump straight from OS 7 to BlackBerry 10 while skipping 8 and 9 continues to elude mankind.
