1. i cannot be specific with my answer with you as i haven't tried to use only one sim with my n101.
there is a function that you can set the phone to use only sim so why don't you give it a shot.. :)
2. i believe s30 phones don't have that capability..

in my opinion the red one is more feminine, so i went for phantom black. my girl chose coral red.

1) i rarely need the dual sim, or my second sim in use. if i remove the second sim can i avoid the restart issue? as i don need the second sim always.
2) wil the alarm ring if the phone is put in off, because basic phone wont have that facility

I'm really hoping that a firmware update would solve some if not most of the issues like the restart problem. Nokia Care said that the hardware is ok based on their diagnostics so that leaves the software to be blamed for the restarts.
101 maybe shares the same software with the x1-01 because the demo mode shows the buttons of the x1-01 I'm not just sure if x1-01 restarting is also a problem. I really would want to get the BL-5J used on x1-01 for extended battery life and if this can solve the restart problem.

yes, it's dual standby both sims can receive messages at the same time. during call one sim has to drop signal, it's normal not an issue at all. it's only dual standby not dual active. (source: another review)

1.the phone is working great! go get one at Nokia or any trusted dealer. yes, there is restart issues it happened with my n101 couple of times mostly when my other sim is poor in signal(it's okay because my other network is weak here in my location). but i don't mind it at all, start up is fast anyway.. :)
2.the speaker is integrated so it is 'louder' than the usual speakers that we can see in the market. if you set the volume to high/max level you cannot avoid the voice leakage it is as if you put it to loud speaker. voice leakage will be normal . but there is a very simple way to get rid of the voice leakage :) turn your volume to level 3 or 4(mine at 4 only) then you're all good. another advantage of integrated speaker is that it doesn't get hot even in long hours of talk. front or back side it doesn't matter i tried both, reception is really clear and fine.
i'm using a 4gb sdhc. i have only 200 songs so far.. and it will count. i know somebody who tried 8gb and it also worked well.
getting a memory card reader is not an a problem at all.
what you get in this mobile is more than you can expect at this price range...
i hope i have given you enough information about the beauty of N101.

memory expandable --16gb --for what if there is no bluetooth,,, no USB --how songs or recordings could be passed to computer or any phone or in nokia 101 phone itself----there should be blue tooth and usb
big --problem ---have to buy an card reader to perform all the above tasks
