Oh and regarding the question if it can play mp3 as ringtones. I don't really know. What I know is that it has a composer so maybe with the help of a software you can find precomposed ringtones.

After 3 days of living with the Nokia 1600 and after 2 years of heavy use of Nokia 6100 my comments are:
First of all realise that this is a mobile phone, which captures the initial "definition" of it to its best, ie talk and text.
+ Very good size and weight (pretty much like the 6100)
+ Very easy to use. Numeric shortcuts have been taken out (unfortunately) BUT there is a programmable key which can hold a list of your shortcuts and it also uses numeric ones. This is for me a very great feature as on the touch of the button I have my favourite servives.
+ You can FINALLY change the alarm tone which is a blessing as you get sick to listening to the same tune after a while (unlike the 6100).
+You can COPY your contacts to the sim card from the phone and vice versa with "a single click". (unlike 6100)
+ It pretty much has all the extras (games, calculator, converter, etc.)
+ Nice polyphonic
Now some minus points that I find mostly irritating.
- It is DUAL band.... Why couldn't you build it as a tri-band. Even 6100 which is like 4 years old is triband.
- Multiple numbers/name. Whyyyyyyy? Even again the 6100 does have that. And considering that you can only save 200 numbers in the phone list.... is pretty annoying.
- Right key on the crosspad is fixed to demo. I mean after the first day I am sure that I do not need to refer to the demo for learning how to dial a number. What a waste of a key?
- Does ANYBODY really have a clue about this famous mini DUK cable? And does the nokia software support it?
Overall, I like the phone and I don't give a damn about camera, mp3 players, ringtones etc... If it only had the above features then it would be the ideal handset for me. Now somewhere around 65-70 percent.

It's a Very Good Model with some cool basic features.
But, i experienced this network problem, after i make/receive a call, my network is lost for 25-30 seconds...i'm using Hutch.
Don't know if, its the instrument problem or the service provider problem or the mobile software problem....
Does anybody know, why this problem is occuring?

Hello guys - this phone rocks! i recommend it to ppl who needs phone with basic functions. It has build-in tones (MP3 quality and poly) but You cannot download a new one since it foesnt support gprs. Also - phone doesnt have file system so You cannot put new tones/wallpapers into it. It doesnt support MMS, it hasnt got calendar, notepad. You may ask why i liked this phone - 2 reasons - it has got great battery and it is really fast. Battery is BLC-5 900 mAh. I use this phone for calls (about 30/day) and sms (10/day) and battery lasts for 6-7 days. Menu is fast, like 3510i. The keypad is one of best in mobile phones, is made from plastic, it has great sensitivity. I recommend this phone to all ppl which like me doesnt need camera, bluetooth, mms and gprs but neeeds good battery and fast menu.

The operator who suggested this phone as an upgrade told me it could play mp3's as ring tones and that it had bluetooth. Seems like it doesn't, now I'm stuck with possible the worst ringtones in the world. What ever happened to having a ringing noise as one ofthe options?!?! Very disapointed
