I bought this phone yesterday after I lost my Nokia Slide 3600.

Comparing it in terms of value. My old phone costs 4 times the amount of this phone here but the quality nokia 1680 is definitely not 4 times as bad.

Good apearance, relatively user friendly key pad(except for the (9) and (#) key), camera is workable, familiar functions and a comparably long lasting battery. Its also very light. I think its also one of the cheapest phones around that can send and receive mmses.

Flaws are the lack of a USB cable, an almost useless memory capacity, since there is no way to tranfer pictures or music to and from a pc. Very dissapointed with the lack of bluetooth. Bad speakers, phone calls are fuzzy and soft even with maximum volume. Screen is frustratingly grainy, making it an eye sore to look at while smsing. Also the phone lags when pressing the keys too quickly.

Overall, a usable phone, but has limited other uses apart from smsing and calling. Its just another one of those "throw away phones" after you can afford a better one.

i have a usb cord that plugs into the charging slot, not the actual usb slot, can i still connect to my computer? ive tried but it doesnt seem to be working, again, the part that hooks to my phone goes into the charging slot and the other side looks like a regular usb cord end.

Mark K, 24 Jun 2009I'm sorry to say, it appears that the N1200 data cable work... moreI have also Nokia 1680c-2
                v 06.82
                26-09-08
Installed the cable-software for the N1200
                PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_10311.exe
In device manager I can see Prolific USB-to-serial Comm Port (COM4)
Installed as first installation Nokia PC suite ver.7.1.26. (dutch).
In PC suite I choose cable and COM4
                result no connection.
So I think something changed in the firmware of the Nokia 1680, In my case cable is useless.

In fact, my cable was working perfectly until just four days ago, when it suddenly stopped working. At first I suspected the problem was caused by my upgrade to the latest version of PC Suite, but I've now tried it on another computer with the 7.1.26.0 version installed, and I am no longer able to connect to the phone, using exactly the same software, computer, cable, and phone that were working for me previously! I also tried the cable with another 1680c-2b phone with the same firmware version, and it does not work on that phone either. I don't think that my cable has been damaged in any way, because I've been very careful with it.

I'm wondering, is is possible that my mobile service provider could have disabled the cable feature on my phone remotely through the network (to force me to use their expensive mobile data services to transfer photos, contacts, and other data in and out of my phone)?

a rather boring phone, it has camera and you can download music-videos by using gprs at: http://wapnext.com ,but it´s a real boring phone anyway. when you press no 7 on the buttons it´s easy to press the * button instead.

All you need is the correct drivers the cable N1200 has a chipset PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_10311.exe google this since the first one I downloaded didn't work.

There are tons of cool themes and games all free for this phone.

All I use is the nokia pc suite, haven't tried the Mobile Browser but I'm happy with the usb cable.

It is starting to look like Nokia has indeed removed the option to connect from newer firmware
but to make sure we need more people to test

I'll try some more things to see if I can get it to work..

Yesterday I discovered I was no longer able to connect to my Nokia 1680c-2b with my N-1200 cable, and I believe the problem started after I upgraded to version 7.1.30.8 of Nokia PC Suite. So far I have been unable to get it working again on that computer, even after uninstalling version 7.1.30.8 and reinstalling the prior version 7.1.26.0 that I had been using before. I suspect the problem is that version 7.1.30.8 was not uninstalled completely, although I'm not absolutely sure.

Therefore, to anyone having problems using the N-1200 cable, perhaps you could try installing PC Suite 7.1.26.0 on a fresh installation of Windows XP or on another computer that has never had another version of PC Suite installed. To obtain version 7.1.26.0, you can google "Nokia_PC_Suite_7_1_26_0_eng_web.exe" or download it directly from nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_PC_Suite_7_1_26_0_eng_web.exe

Please report back if it solves your problem, so that other people can be helped.

From the some reviewer comments, PC suite and Mobile Media Browser are the available software that allow us to transfer to or from the phone.
However, installation of PL2302 data cable driver is must.
Therefore, just choose either PC suite + PL2302 data cable driver or Mobile Media Browser + PL2302 data cable driver for your PC installation.
The later version of Nokia 1680c, MAY BE not able to connect to PC. If anyone have that problem please post here and let Nokia user know before order data cable.

Anonymous, 17 Jun 2009thanks for your reply Mark! I checked and tried several ... moreNo, nothing changes on the phone screen when it connects. The only thing I've noticed on the phone screen is that after it is already connected, if I double-click on the Contacts icon in PC Suite (which starts the Nokia Communications Centre), I see the following messages on the phone screen in rapid succession: Initializing sync, Sync sending Phonebook, Sync receiving Phonebook, Finalizing sync, Synchronization successful. It sounds like your PL-2303 driver is installed correctly, because you are seeing the cable in the Device Manager under Ports. The only thing I can imagine you might be doing wrong is not setting the serial port number correctly in PC Suite. I.e., in the PC Suite menu item "Settings, Manage Connections," make sure there is a check mark beside "Serial Cable (CA-42)" and nothing else, then double-click on "Serial Cable (CA-42)" and select the COM port number that you saw in the Device Manager for the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port, then click the green check mark to confirm your selection. It usually takes only about 25 seconds for the connection to be made by PC Suite after I plug the cable into the phone, so if it doesn't connect after that amount of time, I unplug the cable from the phone and re-plug it, which seems to help in that case.

Also, to answer another person's question, the phone does NOT need to be unlocked the use the N-1200 cable. However, someone has noted the possibility that Nokia might have disabled the cable feature in later firmware versions. I do know that it works just fine for my 1680c-2b with 2008-7-31 firmware version.
