Before you read further, you must know that I am a fan of Nokia phones. I carry two phones with me all the time, and the second phone is always a Nokia. Oh yes, it is quite annoying to have a bulge on the pant pocket, and a smartphone holster on your belt. But hey, when you leave in a third world country where cellular service is so cheap, the provider doesn't even have financial motivation to improve the service quality, then a customer must take care of himself by carrying an extra phone. I gotta tell you that Nokia seldom fails me. This 2730 I found by accident when I was out in a shopping mall. The design and feature did not really catch my eyes until the sales representative told me that this phone is a UMTS/3G capable, has a 3.5mm stereo jack connection, a Bluetooth 2.0, a micro USB connector, a microSD slot, and priced at around $100US (Nokia chief marketing strategist at Espoo must have gone maaaddd X-). The overall size is a bit big for my taste, but it is quite comfortable to hold in my small hand. I quite like the way the battery cover is designed, with its smooth corners, metallic bar divider and Nokia emblem, and the small wire mesh cover for the loudspeaker decorating the back cover. From my experience, the distinguishing mark of cheap Nokia lies on the keyboard, and this 2730 is a slight exception. Since keyboard is the only moveable part of a mobile phone, it must be designed carefully and must have flexible materials to withstand thousands upon thousands of repeated finger presses. I have several cheap Nokia CDMAs in the past with very badly designed keyboards, and these keyboards do not last. However, the 2730 has slightly different design. It has flat metallic plate which very similar to the Motorola Razr from the 2006. I doubt that the keyboard in the Nokia is made from etched thin metal, but rather made out of plastic plate with metallic anodization on the surface. Another thing that is very important to me; a mobile phone must be easily connected to a PC, and the 2730 classic does that with ease. I can connect it to my PC Suite with USB cable or over Bluetooth. PC communication is almost seamless. One thing that I notice though, this phone must have an old and slow processor at the heart. It will take forever to check for or install new Java apps or for my Windows explorer to call up and show the files from the microSD or the phone internal memory. And yes, just like the other reviewer says, this phone does not have screen or power saver, but I've found a way to check for time and dates when its keyboard is locked. You can easily do this by pressing the END/Power button.
Overall I am pleased with the value that I got from this phone, and hope that people who reads my review find it to be an accurate representation of the phone in the real world. Ciao.

Very good price/features ratio. I recommend it.
Stylish look, silver keypad, rounded corners, chrome on the edges, suggesting the phone is more expensive than it actually is.
Quality of phone calls is very good. Be careful not to have UMTS activated when doing phone calls (there should be an antenna icon in the upper left corner instead of a "3G" icon), UMTS is more "picky", the signal may be lower, and not available in every location.
The menu is a bit cluttered and messy, for instance it took me hours to figure out how to set up the Internet connection (the settings are spread across 3 different menus). Also the some phone settings are really hard to be found. Those familiar with Nokia may not know what I am talking about, but I found Sony Ericssons and Samsung menus easier to understand and more intuitive.
The headphones are average, the internal speaker sounds pretty well, the ringtone sound is loud enough for me.
The FM radio is pretty good, the reception is good, even for weak signal.
The camera is average, pretty good pictures in daylight, but blurry in low light (the software tries to get rid of the noise, but the result can be a disaster, "washing" up the picture) I find the camera being better than the one that fits some Samsung phones, but not as good as the one Sony-Ericssons have. I am strictly referring at 2MP cameras.
It does have some 3G capabilities, but only UMTS (max 384 kbps - approx 35 KB/s). However is better than EDGE. For browsing I recommend Opera Mini which is really fast.
Bluetooth is a bit faulty. For instance I was unable to send/receive photos when pairing it with a Nokia 2330, but worked flawlessly paired with a Sony Ericsson K750i.
I'll recommend this phone to everyone looking for a phone packed with enough features, at a decent price.

Catalin, 18 Apr 2010No, it can hold up to 2 GB max, it specifies it in the desc... moreIt really can hold 4GB of memory... If you don't believe it then don't! I already asked Nokia last month about the 4GB and they replied that it will work... They confirmed it.

XtremeX, 17 Apr 2010Can I use microSD 4GB on this phone?
Because I bought one.... moreHave you tried the 4GB SD? Does the phone read it ok and find all the capacity? If it does, there is no reason for you to change it for a smaller one.
It's just great that people dare to test things out of the official specs!
