brijesh, 12 Jan 2011hi, sb! i want to know that when we download and lnstall a ... more1. Software update downloaded from nokia are first stored into the phone memory. Then, after installation, it replaces the necessary files (mostly applications) present in C drive itself. This type of update are usually called minor updates. But in case of major update, you will need nokia software updater (pc). This time the rom files are changed.
2. Usually the C drive is mostly less than 256Mb or 340Mb(maybe) and not more. So, even if the phone has 8gb internal memory, the C drive will only be of around 256Mb. The remaining memory acts as a memory card (i.e a separate drive). After that, if you put an external microsd card then you will have 3 drives. So, even if you go for C7, the C drive will have same memory as that of C6-01.
In my opinion, you should go for C6-01 as it has nokia's Clear Black technology(the best screen in todays standards, omiting the resolution factor). Also, C6-01 has got class 33 gprs and edge.
There isn't going to be any symbian 4. Its official statement. But the UI will be customised and modified through the updates (just like android). So, your device will keep changing its style with time. So, go for C6-01. Good luck!

hi, sb! i want to know that when we download and lnstall a sw update from nokia, which memory it consumes. i m planning to buy c6-01 in march, since u know that it is a symbian3 device and has 340mb of user memory, 256mb of ram and 1gb of rom.there is going to.be a symbian4 update for all symbian3 devices.so what do u think should i go for c6-01 or c7 which has 8gb of user memory and rest is same.

But its an accepted concept that 3gp videos are meant for lowest level multimedia phones. This format follows h.262 codec and hence will have a larger file size compared to a similar quality mp4 video having h.264 codec. 3gp videos are meant to have bitrate of around 100kbps and resolution of a maximum 176x144. But modern converters usually breaks this barrier.
While downloading a video file from internet, a man would want the file to be of highest quality yet having smaller file size. The codec h.264 is meant to do that. Hence its used much more that the outdated h.262 or h.263 codecs. But the complexity of the videos are altered. H.264 is much complex to process due to its high quality and low size property. But h.263 and h.262 are of lesser complexity.
Because of this difference in complexities, mobile companies put forth a list of supported codecs of a device, keeping in mind the processing prowess of a phone.

But I also said that extentions like .3gp and .mp4 has nothing to do with quality of the video. Its only the bitrate that matters (audio or video).

As for increasing ram, nothing of that sort is available yet. Ram memory as you would already know is a lot different from memory card's. The data rates supported are huge when compared with those of memory card. Eg: A pc ram supports data rates of 3GBps. So even though it helps in multitasking, the overall improvement in performance is negligible. The extra memory obtained does little good while you run high ram/processor intensive programs like games or video conversion.
