Sbdevilmind, 17 Nov 2010Nokia 5800 audio codec has better stereo crosstalk, distort... moreNo, stereo cross talk and distortion levels are better in 523x. 5800 has below average stereo cross talk performance.

"Crosstalk measurement is made to determine the amount of signal leaking across from one channel to another or in purely non-technical terms it measures how good the stereo is. So, the higher the absolute value, the better the stereo."

"Distortion is the name given to anything that alters a pure input signal in any way other than changing its magnitude. So, as you might have guessed it, the lower the number, the better the sound reproduction."

The above quotes have been taken from the audio quality test descriptions given by GSMArena.

I agree that 5130's audio codec cannot utilise the features supported by symbian.

SidewindeR, 16 Nov 2010Oh I didn't actually know that mate... Anyway you have a be... moreNokia 5800 audio codec has better stereo crosstalk, distortion level and dynamic range. But frequency response wise, nokia 523x series has the best output. Nokia 5130 audio (in normal equiliser settings) has better audio compared to the tube. But its worth noting that the sound engine used in s60v5 phones is much powerful than s40 ones. The reason is simple. S40 phones can't increase the bass (which results in requirement of more power to output per unit time). But s60 devices can do the same easily. So to give a fair judgement, s60v5 phones has better audio component irrespective of the codec used.

Btw, did you change the code yourself or are you not able to figure out the default code. If its the latter then try typing nothing and pressing ok. The latest nokia phones have passcodes as blank, so try it and let us know of your progress.

Anyway you have a better in depth experience with nokia phones be it symbian or java than most of us here. Anyway glad that you're now a full timer here. We all can learn a lot of stuff from each other and that would equally benefit all of us.

Anyway mate had any luck finding a suitable installer for installing 5130 audio codec? Well the audio already sounds good thanks to the 5800 audio codec which i am guessing is already incorporated with Katalyst^2.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm a newbie to symbian. This is my first smartphone and I haven't even used it for 2 months yet. I had to go through numerous comments by people like you and sb (and many others) to build up my knowledge of 5233 and symbian^1.
This forum is definitely a goldmine of knowledge for anyone looking for an in row into the realms of symbian platform. This forum is simply great, we have so many people contributing here unlike most of the other forums.

I would like to thank each and every person who have positively contributed to this forum(no matter how big or small).

Who needs facebook when you have good friends right here. I go through each and every post almost daily though i don't get enought time to reply to most of the queries. Me and Sb had a head start here as we've been exploring this phone for quite a while now. Utk on the other hand is born with this so though he was a bit late to join the game he's contributed a lot and helped a lot of wannabe buyers and newbies here.
Everyone helps eachother here and that seems to be the best thing I like about this forum. A hundred brains thinking together is definitely better than a single one trying to find answers. Me and Sb started out here as newbies but we were quick to learn things and what knowledge we gain from here is what we share with others here... So I request you stick around and share your knowledge so that we all can benefit.
