if you need the 3G, just go for the 5800.

Ahm. I'll just ask if Nokia 5530 is a good phone? I'm planning to buy this or Nokia E63 and until now, I'm not yet certain what phone to get. What do you think? E63 or 5530? I need replies ASAP. Thank you very much.

Thulani , 23 Mar 2010Hi there happy people i have recently bought the 5530xpress... moreDear Thulani,

There are two memory capacities in your mobile... One is phone memory and the other one is your memory card.. By default when you transfer files using bluetooth they will automatically go to your message inbox as bluetooth messages... As the message inbox is located in phone memory, those bluetooth files also go to the phone memory..

Well... Phone memory of this mobile is about 75 MB maximum... So even though you've got plenty of enough space in your memory card, you'll see that error message just because your phone memory is too law for the file transfer...

My recommendation is, always keep phone memory free as much as possible... Don't install 3rd party applications in your phone memory and try your best to copy everything to the memory card which has lot of memory..

In order to free your phone memory the first thing you can do is, search your inbox for Bluetooth messages and multimedia messages... Save all of them to the memory card and delete all of them from the inbox... Now you'll gain considerable space in your phone memory and you will be able to transfer more bluetooth files... But don't forget to save them too, to the memory card and then delete the files in inbox...

You can see how much phone memory and how much memory card memory you've left by following path.

Menu - Applications - File Manager (Now you can see very clearly how much free space you've got..)

          Hope this will help...

B, 23 Mar 2010Thank you Nuwan, but I must admit I am clueless about the s... moreDear B,

Please follow below link in order to know how to soft/hard reset the mobile.

                http://en.kioskea.net/faq/470-how-to-reset-your-nokia

(Please note that the below 'Note' in the above web page is not relevant to Nokia 5530 Xpress Music so just forget about it..)

If you soft reset, then it'll not delete your private data... But during a hard reset everything will be deleted so it's very important you take a back up of your contacts, messages (if you want) etc.. To do so, you can go to Menu - Applications - File Manager (File mgr.) and select back up... Save the file in memory card and copy it to your computer and format the memory card too...

You can back up your data using the PC suit too... Use the method easy for you..

Then do the hard reset according to the web page I've provided... Following matters are important when you do so..

                1) Make sure the battery is fully charged
                2) Do NOT interfere the process until it's completed... (It'll take about 5-10 minutes... Leave it alone during that time...)

After the hard reset, Go to Menu - Settings - Phone - Phone Management (Phone mgmt.) - Device Updates and check the firmware version.. if it's 20.0.080 then no Problem.. You have the latest firmware.. If it's a below no then you must update your firmware...

Click options in the same 'Device Updates' menu and select 'Check for Updates'

Make sure you have reliable and fast wifi internet connection nearby in order to do the update... It's very important that internet connection should be reliable and sufficient.. Or if you don't have wifi internet connection, then you can use your Personal computer to achieve the thing... You can download the Nokia software update from Nokia site and update your firmware using that software... (You should connect your mobile through data cable...) Battery should be full and you should not interfere the process... Then everything will hopefully be fine...

If you want more details how to do this, how to do that... you can search in google because there are plenty of articles written about the same subject...

                Good luck brother...

Jett, 23 Mar 2010Dear Nuwan, I'm back! How are you buddy? As I said... moreDear Jett,

Happy to hear from you again brother...
The latest and best (so far) firmware version for Nokia 5530 is V 20.0.080
You can check your mobile's firmware version as below.

Go to Menu - Settings - Phone - Phone Management (Phone mgmt.) - Device Updates

The manufactured date of the mobile, you can see on the box... (The outer box..) You can make sure whether the box belonged to the same mobile inside by checking the IMEI no mentioned on the box with the IMEI no you can get by using the code *#06# by dialing it in your mobile...

I don't think Nokia will change the build quality of a same mobile as time passes... However they introduced some fiber piece attached to the battery back cover in newer 5530s in order to avoid wobbling back cover problem... So I think you better buy a newer 5530 most probably made in this year...

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2010@cybershotunderdog and nuwan, thanks, i guess both suites ... more5530 doesn't have any heating proble (not even extended use of wifi, even talking to someone for an hour).. Well I also agree about the build quality of the 5530 (before the battery cover is so loose and it creaks, well nokia had changed that by putting something rubbery inside) the 5230's build is great too, wzy more than you expect with a 5800 body look alike, it feels solid. But I like the 5530 because it is so compact, plus I love the stainless steel finish of the front frame (due to my lust for the E series' body) but size comes with a price though, the 5530 is equipped with a smaller screen, resulting in a more difficult accuracy but the 5530 scores good here. The 5230 on th other hand scores great in this part, due to the same sensitivity as the 5530 with a bigger screen. So your choice ....

                      Dear Nuwan,

                      I'm back!

                      How are you buddy?

As I said I'm waiting till December for me to buy this phone. as ofcourse a special gift for my self but i guess im getting this one in no time at all.
im really-really excited to go get my phone.
                      anyway, my question is this.
What should i check in the phone before buying it. i mean how will i know im getting the right firmware.(and what does it look like in the screen to be exact?) one more thing what is the latest or the best if not the latest firmware available?
is there a way that i will know the manufacturing date of the phone?or it doesn't matter if the phone is made this year or even if it's form last year's?
                      hear from you soon.

                      Thanks buddy.

Sad to know that somebody is using your name for his own satisfaction...

Anis, 22 Mar 2010Thankx nuwan and cyber shot..for ur valuable suggestions.pl... moreDear Anis,

Yes... 5230 has a better battery (1320 mAh) than 5530 (1000 mAh)... (Obviously battery life should be better in 5230...)

5530 doesn't have a heating problem brother...! For an example I took two continuous calls, first one 1 & 1/2 hours and Second one 45 minutes.. (Similar to a 2 & 1/4 hours call...) But I didn't experience such a heating problem... (However I use my headset for long conversations...)

I will definitely suggest you to go for 5530 Xpress Music... However that's my personal opinion... I will recommend you to do this... Go to the nearest phone shop and hold the both phones in your hand... If you do this... then you will decide on the spot that you better go with 5530... Because 5530 looks so sexy... Build quality also way better than 5230.. Please read the comment of our friend "NANDA KISHORE". I totally agree with him regarding the look and feel of the Nokia 5530 Xpress Music...

                          Good luck brother...

Glad to know that most of your problems have been solved after the hard reset... However the problem regarding the Camera, I still don't understand why it happens.. And I don't get how a video recording for 30 minutes could eat battery that much...! That's really strange but I don't see any solution honestly speaking...

Why don't you go to a Nokia care center and show them the problem...? Most of the time, they will provide you a brand new replacement...

I think you better try a soft reset your mobile first and then if it doesn't work, try a hard reset... Please back up all your private data (only private data.. Not the settings and things like that...) and format the memory card before the hard reset..

Immediately after the hard reset before you install any third party application, update your firmware to the latest version... (If you're afraid to do so, you can always go to a Nokia care center for that...) Then I think your problem will be solved...

I am having difficulty with the 'dialer' and 'end call' keys on the phone, they do not work. For me to dial I have to press 'menu' key then press the dial key in order to get the dialer to make a call. Further, the shortcuts on the home screen do not show up and the 'dialer' and 'contacts' on the home screen do not work either. I press them and nothing happens. I have installed and reinstalled the latest device software and phone software updates etc and nothing has changed. What else can I do?

What I mean about my firmware is when i bought it the firmware is already V20.0.080.But I've try a hard reset and formatting the memory yesterday. The Sound of the games are now working but still when it comes to camera and video it still hangs but doesn't restart anymore.the video and camera still go all black and after reseting,it will go back to normal again. But there's something fishy i've noticed in my phone whenever my camera or video mode hangs and reset it, I've notice the battery status bar are lessened ex:my battery is fully charged (7bars) and I use my camera or video for about 30mins. After i saved the videos and try using my video mode again, the screen will all go to black and I need to restart it to go back to normal, and when i look on the battery bars it lessened to 5 or 4 bars. I think the battery and hanging of my phone is related coz it never hangs when my battery is fully charged. Thank You Again Nuwan. Hard Reset really helps me esp.about the game sounds.but there's still a problem about the video and camera.
