Ok after a week this is a great multimedia phone, love it, but... I'm on the latest software but the phone keeps rebooting itself and has frozen a few times. Battery life is poor too. To keep or to get rid, thats the question!

Thats much of a relief. It will be out anytime. Hope they consider and price it nominal at around max of 12k

sujith, 28 Jan 2010hey kkkabirkkk our nokia 5530 is symbian^1 so when r this s... moreSymbian^2/3 is expected to be released in the first half of this year bringin better touch response and removing the double click thing and others, our devices are supposed to get the updates for sure. Symbian^4 is still in development and i think it'll come with new devices in the Q4 of this year or only next year. Symbian^4 is gonna be big with multiple widget based homescreen and flattened iphone like menu, higher screen resolution support etc etc. We should get some similar updates too, i'm not sure, only time can tell..
There's one thing to get our hopes up for though..ie the symbian countdown in twitter and in http://countdown.symbian.org . It started 2 days back, seems to be random countdown, numbers have changed from 108 to 61 to 49 so far.. No one knows what it's gonna bring. Let's just hope that symbian gives us something to cheer for..

As you know, the music player has a minimized mode on the home screen. For some strange reason I cannot get mine to go there anymore. I checked all the settings and cannot seem to find one to get it back there. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My free internal memory has decreased from 42 mb to 20 mb.I know that deleting cookies from net browser increase 6 mb and google maps has taken about 8 mb in cache memory. And one of my friends suggested me to give factory setting keeping everything in backup. But I don't think its a smart solution to keep backup every now and then and put my mobile in factory setting. But is there any other way??? and could anyone tell me what is the minimal internal free memory that i must keep for proper functioning.pls help.

Nuwan, 28 Jan 2010Dear Lokesh, Thank you so much dear brother... but actu... moreSymbian OS and symbian platforms:

symbian^1/2/3/4 are the open source platforms developed/being developed by symbian. Symbian OS that the smartphones run, range from 6.0 to 9.5. These are all operating systems and s60v1,s60v2,s60v3&s60v5 are all UI(user interface) that run over the OS. S60v5 is the UI of our phone while it runs on symbian OS 9.4. Other than s60 there are UIQ and MOAP user interfaces that run over symbian OS. Symbian platform (^1^2^3^4) is actually an OS as well as a software platform and is open source formed by the integration of OS and UIs, bringing them all into one platform. That is to say that a device with this new symbian os will not have differentiation of os and UI, OS will directly do everything. Symbian^1 platform was built by integrating the symbian OS with s60v5 UI and was released as symbian os 9.4 (that our devices have). Thus symbian^1 isn't open source. First open source platform should be symbian^2.

Now it should be clear that s60v3 devices donot have any os as symbian^0, they have symbian os 9.1 /9.2/ 9.3.

I couldn't answer your second question... Actually I had a PDF reader (not the adobe one.. But something else...) but as it was just a trial version, it didn't last more than a week... (I was supposed to purchase the full version so I gave it up...)

Why don't you convert the PDF in to TXT format and copy them to mum...? For me that's seeming to be the better option... Because, as 5130 is not a symbian phone with appropriate hardware capabilities even if it had a PDF reader the experience with it will not be that pleasant... (I mean it will be slower...)

Just google if you want to find a PDF to TXT converter...
