Anonymous, 02 Apr 2020Don't compare with Mi they have cheap hardware even when th... moreThe Mi 9T I'm talking about, has an AMOLED screen made by Samsung... I don't think that's considered as "cheap" hardware. The hardware use by Nokia is probably cheaper if you see the details and compare. Anyway Mi has a very low profit margin for their phones, that's why the selling price is cheap.
But back to my point, anything beyond 300 DPI is actually almost beyond the human eye's resolving power. You can do some research online for this. People are fascinated with numbers and always think a higher number must be better, but for reality it can be just a waste of money and resources for "benefits" that's close to zero. So Nokia 5.3 's resolution is now a problem
There are higher resolutions available...say.. 8K. WIth 64 times more pixels than 1K resolution, the GPU need to work 64 times hardware and also consumes much more power.

What the heck is Nokia doing? There are some original people whom were with Nokia from Finland still working at Nokia now. Please do something with R&D! It use to be the #1 brand leading the way. Its sad to see new products with such low specs compete with flagship killers like oneplus/umidigi/huwei etc... Don't go down the same path while with Microsoft

The core issue is, by focusing on an audience that lacks dexterity of technology, Nokia is forced to churn out cell-phones that have rather underwhelming design (aesthetics) with slightly throttled specs that could definitely get the attention of the not-so-tech-savvy crowd and is bland for a tech enthusiast.

Nokia, a perfect example on how to completely destroy a brand...
I will not go into technical details, because they are massively disappointing - both this 5.3 and the 8.3.
On their recent video on customer involvement it was quite clear that they only had one priority: customers involved in India. This is reflected on the design and quality of their phones. Either targeting rich Indian people or not wealthy Indian people. Trying to drive mass sales without caring about the rest of the world, about building a brand and attention to details - this is what labels Nokia right now.
What about the European, US or etc customers Nokia?
It is much easier to loose customers that will never come back, rather than gain new customers.

While everybody complains no full HD, I like phones with lower resolution because the power consumption is much lower, thus longer battery life. I had a Nokia 5 (282 ppi), and also a Mi 9T (403 ppi), having them compared side by side viewing the same web-page at a normal viewing distance, I can't see any major difference in terms of sharpness of the text.
If you compare a resolution of 720x1600 vs 1080x2340, the number of pixels is almost 2 times difference. So for a lower resolution, GPU only need to work 50% as hard. Why would we want such a high resolution if the visual difference is not that high?
