One sad thing about 6170, I got this phone the first week it is out here, but the price for the pass few months has drop so drastically that I almost faint.

The only difference the 7270 is the 13MB memory and the FM Radio after comparing menu to menu. 7270 only cost me SGD20 more.

Both play mp3 and also mp3 ringtones, but mp3 song is about 4MB per song. You need a very short mp3 song to put into poor 2MB (minus 1MB of Nokia's stuff) of 6170.

7270 has 2 games, the disco & the pin ball, not so nice. 6170 has 3 games, the Race, the looks like tetris & the Mahjong (my favourite).

I realise that the 6170 & 7270 ringtone, Java games & Java applications (even our own downloads) cannot be copied out to the PC compare to some other older models of Nokia which can. Has anyone out there know how to copy them out so that I can still download them into my future phone.

I am using 6170 but I think 7270 is a better phone. 7270 seems more for women but I have seen men (guess the black cover does the trick) using it too.

The mini display of 6170 corrupts once before, my all the display becomes slant. Reset helps overcome the problem. Up till now, so far so good.

If you use GPRS, clear the cache to save some memory for 6170.

I have had the phone for a couple of weeks and am delighted with it, but there is one significant problem: whenever the phone is ringing and i open the fold, it keeps ringing for about 2 seconds. The option 'answer calls when fold is opened' is active. Anyone else having the same problem?

Was looking to upgrade to Bluetooth as biz useful, but hated the look of all other phones so upgraded to 6170 for short-term (yes, I know style over substance) until can get one that looks as good and has BT. This would be my perfect phone if it had Bluetooth. Ironic really: the 'brand image' is young professional, but it lacks the requisite hardware! Please Nokia upgrade before I do...

about da other thing. push-to-talk is not for everywhere. aparently only some places in europe and most of asia has it. so it doesnt do much if u dont live dere. hehe.

I just got the phone I'm having weird prolems with the SMALL screen. Today it just shutted down when my phone started ringing. Yesterday it did kinda same thing and it was showing missed calls on it. A bright pixel also appeared on the screen (looked like dead pixel) but it dissapeared after few restarts. Main screen is functioning well and is not showing any weird things. Anyone have similar problems? Could this be firmware related? Has Nokia relased a new firmware after the release of 6170??

phone memory capacity is 2mb. but 1mb is already used by default graphics, screensavers, tones, etc. but you can delete em if you like to.

hello, just now i have read all your opinion and i have a few question to ask:
1)what is the actual memory space of this
phone?? somebody say it is 1.6mb or 2.0mb
                      or less than 3.0mb etc.
2)can this phone use mp3 as ringtone??
3)if yes, how many song can this phone
                      store??
                      4)what is push-to-talk??

                      pls help!!

this little mobile meets all the expectations i would find in a compact, handy and useful phone on the go. the reception and voice clarity is even better than the 6260, which i had for 2 1/2 mths. nokia's installed screensavers, wallpapers and ring tones are such a delight to use and reuse again and again, so much so that the owner may not even want to download anything else from an external source.

sure, these factory-loaded nth, gif and jpg files do take up additional memory space but if after a while you don't like some of the .nth or .gif pics then delete them (like i did) and download new ones.

i don't need bluetooth, mp3 or fm radio functions and the absence of these does not in anyway hamper the easy functionality, reliableness and other software glitches inherent from a symbian smartphone. although the 6170 does not get a lot of attention, when compared to other nokia range, it is indeed a very satisfying abeit excellent model.

                          The 6170 DOESN'T have a radio

I just got mine a few days ago (after 3 months of waiting...) and I love it! Here's my pros and cons :

                          Pros:
                          -Design, absolutely everything about it!
-Very good speaker (the person at the other end is heard loud and clear)
-Size (not too big, not too small)
-Displays (the small one is sufficent and the large one superior)
-Camera (enough quality for me, at least..)
                          -Keypad (Finally a man-size keypad!!)

                          Cons:
-Memory (not a big problem, cause you can transfer everything to a computer via infrared or a usb-cable)
-mp3 (at least I couldn't find a way to transfer mp3's as ringtones to my 6170...)
-shiny surfaces (...tend to get fingerprints all over, and it doesn't look nice....)
-The line (...at the top of the internal display. Looks bad with some backround images.. Does anyone know how tho get rid of it?)

All in all, I'd give this phone a nine+ on a scale of 1-10. It pretty much has all the things I look for in a phone. So far I've had one clitch... the external display just stopped working (the display became very fuzzy) one day, and then I turned it off and on again and the problem was solved...

it's not a super phone of course. the only thing i can complain is the memory, but i do love the camera pic quality even if it's not 1megapixel camera.

ok now.. the first thing u get to love at this phone is the design. I thing its one of the best looking flip phones out there. It's elegant. It has style.

Pro-> 2 screens, while taking a pic, u can switch the image on the external screen so that u can make urself a pic
-> The stainless steel covers.. look and feel astonishing
-> Infra red, push to talk, radio, 500 entries, etc etc

Bad things-> when i heard about this phone i thought it's the best out there.. but then i noticed that there are actually only 1.6mb of external memory. And u can't upgrade it either. BIG BIG dissapointement!!!! boy i just couldn't believe it.. i don't explain why nokia made it that way.. any way... i read somewhere that 2 minutes of video is o.7 mb... so i think it cand store about 2 min of video and 100 pics i suppose...(i hope).. If u aren't a photo maniac, it would do just fine. Plus u can connect it to the pc through an usb port and store your pics and vids and then delete'em from the phone to clear up space. I heard smdy saying that it's to big and heavy: no way. The size and wheight are just fine.
Conclusion: This is a very good looking phone and this is the best part of it. It is elegant, stylish, simple design (which is really cool). You can also take pics and vids and listen to the radio. The decision is yours... I give it 4 stars

It is quiet a great phone its like a cheaper version of 7270 but the 7270 has MP3, Video Editing and the games a bit better. Oh and if your wondering AAC is better than MP3 ringtones AAC is 2 layers of Mp3.
