its a great phone as nokias are cos its got mmc it can be easly givin more memory and stores alot of pictures and music also the vidoe is good on it but over time it declies like the camera

To Original_jamaican... hi, can you tell me can i use 1GB memory card for 6230. Iam using it for last 2years and till now no complaint i have about this model even it is made in China. Also need your advise could recommend to upgrade my version to higher from 04.43 i have? Waiting for your advice. tks

after i listen so many ppl opinion..i finally flash my 6230 to V.5.24 instead of previous version 4.44. beside the improvement posted by "original jamaican", there are also some other changes..like the text message templates icon have change to white colour instead of yellow colour, have "send" features now in the music player which quite convenient, better start up time..previous version takes longer to start up the devices, but there are 1 drawback for V5.24, i not sure whether izit my phone only facing this problem, when i press the caller group in the contact menu, my phone will jump to idle screen, in others words i cant access to caller group which i need to assign different tone for different ppl..anybody can help me this?

another question, i wish to know what are the features that i can use when i connect my nokia 6230 to a pc by using nokia dku-5 cable? because i already have bluetooth adapter for pc, this bluetooth already can transfer files and etc, so wat special feature that nokia dku-5 can provide? by the way, how to create the "M3U" playlist? i have scroll so many time in the option menu..but still can find..hope someone can help ne this..thanks!!

its a good phone , very simple to use , althought the mp3 player has a rather low qouality...it has an equliser , and so on...32 card memory...the good part is that MMC cards are cheap :D

i like this phone cuz i got a mmc with 128mb and it is the bomb! sometimes i think i have a phobea for nokia phones, so the next in line will be the 6230i.. yay!!

was anyone encountered that the head set is active even without the headset attached? I tried the factory reset but still i got the same problem. It keeps setting it self to silent mode and the headset icon is always there. :( any suggestion will be highly appreciated. ty

To Mr.GARY: First of all do a FACTORY RESET which you will find in the 'SETTINGS' menu. If that doesn't work, turn the phone off, take out the battery, sim card and memory card and leave them out of the phone for 24 hours. It is said that holding down the power button for 30 seconds resets the phone's software so after taking out the battery, sim card and memory card hold down the power button. Try pressing the power button for 1 min. and then leave out the battery, sim card and memory card out of the phone for 24 hours and see if that helps. If none of these tips doesn't help then you will HAVE to get your phone FLASHED at a Nokia dealer or anywhere that FLASHES phones.

I hope you will be able to resolve your problem without having to flash your phone. Good luck.

To 786: I have given my input. The final decision is up to you. As a final statement from me though I will just say that I have no regrets in getting a Nokia 6230 and I enjoy it everyday in more ways than one.

To EMCEESQUARE: If voice memo is your ONLY priority then the 6230i is the best choice as it records up to one hour. If speed is your main priority then the original 6230 is the best choice.

You need a combination of both voice memo, best and fastest functions so go with the original 6230.

To answer your question directly...the Nokia 6230 can record multiple 3 minute voice memo files. So if you have a big memory card then you can store thousands of 3 minute voice clips. Even though the duration is 3 mins. it takes no time to immediately start a next one, in fact another 3 min. voice memo can get started in 1 sec. because as soon as a voice clip finishes, it goes back to the voice recorder and 'Record' remains highlighted. So as soon as a voice clip is finished just press start right away to immediately start a next one.

A 3 min. voice memo is 281KB which I find to be small. That simple means it takes less than 100KB to record a 1 min. voice clip. Based on my calculation, you can record 1,822 3 min. voice clips on a 512MB card and 24 in the phone's internal memory providing that the gallery is empty.

I hope I was able to make a difference in you deciding between both phones.

To MAN: The 6230's MP3 player and sound quality is fantastic !!!

First of the all the 6230 supports MP3s and AAC audio files.

Some people find the MP3 player to be on the simply side because of the looks BUT the usability and versatility of the MP3 greatly overshadows the looks.

Even though many phones integrated MP3 players in their units, I still find the 6230's MP3 player to surpass the lot of phones.

In fact, many people compare it to the iPod and I know of someone who sold their IPOD after they got the Nokia 6230 because after hearing the sound quality they realised they didn't need their iPod anymore.

The main thing I like about the MP3 player is that it's built in...meaning that it CANNOT be deleted. A friend of mine had a Motorola L7 and he accidentally deleted his MP3 player because it was a java player. The only way he was able to play music was by going to the file directly and opening them, which can be tedious especially if you have a lot of audio files. So right there the Nokia 6230 outshines the Motorola L7.

Another thing I like about the 6230's MP3 player is that it has the ability to rewind and fast forward...MANY phones STILL can't do that.

It also has a 5 band Equalizer...NOT many phones have that kind of feature!

Another advantage is that it supports M3U playlist...meaning files which you can customise with your favourite songs. For instance, let's say you have MP3 or AAC rings, you know small audio files created just for ringing...let's say you ONLY want to play the FULL songs in your Music Player and you don't want the small ringing MP3 or AAC ringtones to be in the MP3 player when you are playing music, by using the M3U playlist feature you can insert ONLY the full songs into the player and leave the rings just for when people calls.

You can jump to a track by pressing the track number while the Music Player is shown on the screen. This feature can be very useful if you have lots of songs in your phone...like me who basically have 100 songs. Another way of jumping to a track is by scrolling through each track while the Music Player is running and then activating that track as soon as it is highlight...you can jump to a particular song either way EVEN if a SONG is being played...in other words if a song is being played you DON'T need to stop the song before jumping to another!

Another thing I like about the Music Player is that it supports background playing so when you are listening to music you can do many other things while the song is being played...write a text message, look up a contact number, check the calender, write a note in notepad...you get the idea. Quite a few phones doesn't support this feature. Multitasking is always a plus!

The Music Player starts up extremely fast too just as everything else in the phone.

As you can see, the Music Player easily outshines many others.

AUDIO: In regards to the audio quality, I find it to be great. In fact I didn't expect it to sound so good seeing that it's a phone and NOT a iPod. Another opinionist from this forum was shocked at the sound quality. They said they expected it to be good BUT not this good. It plays sound crisp and clear and even though it's not a boom box you can still hear bass in most songs. So far the phone hasn't rejected any bitrate thrown at it.
I have played MP3 tracks ranging from 128kbps-384kbps. I have also played lower bitrates than 128kbps MP3s but tracks under 128kbps is not recommended unless it's in the AAC format.
A 384kbps MP3 is a very high quality song and has a very large file size. That doesn't matter to me though because I have a 1GB memory card. Some phones CANNOT handle a 384kbps MP3 file. I tried it in a friend's Motorola e398 which is supposed to be a music phone. The file got transferred to the phone ok but when I tried to play the file the Motorola reported an error. That same file played PERFECTLY and SMOOTHLY in the 6230. The file size was 12MB. Where audio is concerned there's NOTHING to dislike in the 6230, it sounds clear, handles high bitrates and handle very large audio files. This phone was way ahead of it's time. Other phones are playing catch up now.

I have a question for the resident "Wise One" or whoever might know. I am debating the 6230 vs. the 6230i. Since I'm not really interested in the camera and basically want the best and fastest "phone" functions, my only concern is the ability to record voice messages. the 6230 specs show 3 minutes. Is that a grand total of 3 minutes? even with a 512 card? or does that mean it will only record individual messages up to 3 minutes, but that you can record as many messages as your card will hold? Thanks so much in advance for your time and generous sharing of your experience/knowledge. This is a really great forum.

I think the phone is great, my 6230 has never caused me problems into to day, can any one help me!!!! my gallery is empty i cant add any folder, take pictures or revieve any file from blutooth i dont no why every time i go to gallery is sayes empty there is no folders at all

I'm sorry that I'm just getting around to reply to you. You know how it is during the Christmas season, busy until the new year.

To answer your question:

The 6233 is supposed to be an upgrade but in some ways I see it as a downgrade. The most important aspect of a phone is the telephony features. If you have a lot of friends and associates then a huge contact memory is a must! The 6230 can store up to 1,000 contacts with all fields filled...when I say all field I mean - Home, Cell, Work, Fax, E-mail, Street address etc. The 6233 on the other hand only has a capacity for 500 contacts. So if you are a girls man and you don't want to worry about deleting older contacts to make space for newer contacts, then the 6230 is for you.

The 6230 has more internal memory than the 6233. My 6230 has 7MB whereas the 6233 is said to have 6MB flat.

Another advantage that the 6230 have over the 6233 is that it's smaller and lighter. The 6230 weighs 97 grams whereas the 6233 weighs 110 grams...that weight is comparable to some smartphones. I like the smaller and lighter idea because I don't want to be reminded that a phone is in my pocket all the time. Sometimes the 6230 is in my pocket and I tend to forget it's there until it rings. I love that part.

It is said that the 6230 battery life is better. Maybe because the screen resolution isn't as high as the 6233 but either way, having a longer battery life is better anyway you look at it.

That's 5 basic areas where the 6230 wins over the 6233.

Other than that there's nothing more the 6230 has over the 6233. I just love my 6230 and can't think of any replacement.

If you want me to tell you directly whether or not you should take the 6230 it might be unfair of me to say because it all depends on your likes and needs. The 6230 may be a better all around phone BUT the 6233 still excels in some areas like the screen which is bigger and accommodates more colour than the 6230. The 6233 has VGA quality video opposed to the 6230's sub-QCIF. The 6233 has a 2MP camera opposed to the 6230's VGA...regardless, the 6230's VGA camera is said to be the best out of all VGA cameras. That's about it.

My advice to you is if you don't need to store more than 500 contacts and battery life isn't an issue then keep your 6233. If you want to store thousands of contacts and want the best all-around cell phone ever made then try the 6230.

take it to a Nokia care centre theyl upgade the firmware for free --- it cant be upgraded with cable only Nokia care centre can do it
