Suddenly.. a friend of mine tells me about NOKIA 6681.. and I am confused.

Nokia 6681 or Nokia 6230i?

The main difference is the later has a radio, and it is not a symbian phone and probable stability issues..

experts?

    Hi,

I have been using the k750i for 4 mths and is considering re-embracing nokia.
Can someone please advise some of my queries:

    1. How is the mp3 sound quality via the nokia earphones?
    2. How fast is the software, I've been reading ppl saying big lags experienced in opening phonebooks, going to the main menu and exiting to the main menu?
    3. Is there a large lag time when opening the mmc (mp3) folder? (say if the card is 512mb)
    4. Does the method of using IMEI numbers to determine nokia's ph place of origin still exist?
Ie: if the 7th & 8th digit is 30 = Korea etc? (or are they all 00 now?)
    Cheers

couple of things maybe to help out.
Nokia state in the handbook that this phone will only support up to 512 meg cards so forget anything higher.latest firmware is 3.46 and seems to have cured a couple of things. As to camera side, quality between phones does seem to vary, but in settings change standard to high and you shouldnt have any probs upto 1024x 768 res.If any 1 having battery probs throw supplied charger away, its not much better than an in car charger, dig out the old nokia charger agp 7x, probs solved.

And a final drawback worth mentioning:

I think it's time for Nokia to equip its phones with the feature of assigning personal ringtones to contacts/numbers rather than only groups, sometimes it gets annoying to create a group for a single contact to have a personal tone assigned. Stupid, isn't it? And why not make that option available both with Groups and single Contacts? Is it so difficult?

Firstly, now I see what some people (the last - IRFAN ISMAIL) were mentioning: the quality of picture is not excellent it seems, especially when you view it on the PC or zoomed in in the phone. Is it normal for this phone? Or is there a way to improve the quality when indoor?
Paul, let me disagree with you. I am a moderate user too but the charge lasts 4 days, I mean it is not just in stand-by mode but used moderately. If other features like radio, player, games are used frequently, the time decreases to 3 days, but for only 2 days you have use it really all the time I guess !
Camera pictures look excellent when taken oudoor but when the lighting is poorer (not dark) the quality gets worst I think.
Sound, yes, I agree sound is excellent especially through the headsets, it's just like my Sony stereo system, unbelievable !

Thanks again Paul.. may be that is really the reason why people complain about hangs.. i.e. put incompatible things inside.

Also, as far as the still pictures quality is concerned when they are viewed on PC needs following explanation -
Usually photos itself are shakey. Because it is a camera phone.. you can have shakey hands or moving hands or a jerk.. when you press the click button..So usually on the phone's small screen it might not be clearly seen.

                  2. If you are used to viewing images from high end cameras.. certainly 1.3MP will appear a bit blurred to your eyes.. i mean.. nothing can compare to the lossless analog photos out of my old but gold nikon. Afterall it is a digital image with sampling.. you have to have a loss.. to minimise the loss.. means have more megapixels.. got it? Image theory you know :D

It is decent phone in medium class of cell phones. The only problem is quality of still images when displayed on pc. I don't know how to overcome this problem?

Firmware is not an issue. Someone long time back in this forum mentioned about firmware 3.40. But I am using 3.30. No bugs as such, no hangs. Some people say they encounter hangups when they see video in their mobile. I think their handsets are defective. I have never encountered such a thing and I have lots of videos and watch them without any problem. One issue about hangs as I mentioned long time back in this forum is when a MMC of more than 512MB is inserted. I personally tested my handset with a 1GB MMC and it really was a pain. Frequent hangups, shutdowns, slow speed etc. So I recommend a 512MB MMC. Any other questions???

                        Hi Paul.. thanks.

Firmware issues - which is the current firmware in this phone?

After a long time. I see Pinak has a lot of questions to ask.
The battery of a cell phone depends on its usage. If you don't use your phone, just keep it on standby then you have to charge it every fourth day.But if you are a heavy user like calls are made frequently, hear radio often and use the mp3 player all the time then of course you have to charge every two days. My phones battery needs charging every third day as I am a moderate user.
The camera is good keeping in mind that its a camera in a phone and not a phone in a camera. The pictures taken outdoor are really good. Trust me...I take pictures in 640x480 resolution because it reduces the size of files and pictures are taken faster without any loss in quality.
The radio and the mp3 player have STEREO outputs and are very good, especially the mp3 player. The sound is just too good when you hear them through the earphones.
All I have to say is it is really a great handset to use and the prices have also come down now, so its a must buy. Peace.

Well, it seems the only phone, which can be compared with 6230i is N70 (from those available in the market). The only con for the latter I have noted so far is lower resolution especially for larger screen size. However, I don't think this is tragedy. On the other hand, N70 is packed with really lot of more state-of-the-art features and functionalities that make this phone worth considering absolutely the best on the market. I may consider buying one once it appears here.

                                      Thanks NokiaMia!
I was just coming to that by logical deductions that as MP3 itself is a stereo music file and the phone supports stereo audio output (radio), why should it lack stereo MP3 play.

The 6230i plays mp3 in STEREO.
