PEOPLE WITH BATTERY PROBLEMS:

If your 6300 has a firmware lower than v5.00 then upgrade it to v5.00.

Ensure that 'Power Save' & Sleep Mode' are set to ON.

Try to use the default themes instead of custom ones. Even with the default themes, turn off the wallpaper as it uses power.

Turn OFF the screen saver because this will send the phone into sleep mode more quickly.

LOCK the keypad and then press the END key (red button) as this will make the backlight turn off quickly and put the phone into sleep mode instantly.

For the record I use 3rd party themese, turn of the screen saver and use the lock keypad method each time so the light won't stay on uneccesarily.

FOR ALL who DOESN'T know, with the 6300 you can load any supported file to the MEMORY CARD and open it...even GAMES!

Right now the games folder on my memory card is 47MB. With my old 6230 you couldn't load more than 1.5MB worth of games on it...and it had to be loaded in the phone memory otherwise they wouldn't be playable.

The 6300 has blown away my 6300 by 99%.

One thing I like about the 6300 is that even though it supports Midi (Polyphonic) tones it DOESN'T come preloaded with any.

Instead ALL the tones that comes with the phone are in AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) format. The AAC is Dolby Digital's compressed format. The ringtones are crystal clear, I really like the nokia tone now, you can hear all the chimes which you couldn't hear with the previous Nokias because of the limitations with the MIDI format.

For all those people contemplating whether or not they should purchase the 6300 I will give my review on the entire phone.

As I said before mine is a European model, made in Hungary with firmware revision version 5.00.

          PHONE BODY MATERIAL:

HIGH QUALITY feel in the hands because of the expensive materials. Some people consider it to be like the 8000 series which is always made of expensive materials, only difference is it's like the 8000 series with a whole lot more features.

Even though it's mostly METAL it DOESN'T get HOT during calls or when it's charging.

          SIGNAL STRENGTH & CALLS:

Just as any typical Nokia, the BEST in signal strength and call quality. I don't see where the signal strength is better or worse than any other Nokia I ever used. However, where calls are concerned, the voice from the other person on the line sounds clearer then my previous phone Nokia 6230. Going back to my 6230 to make a call the person's voice on the other line sounds deep whereas the 6300 gives a sharp sound clarity when on a call...EVEN when the 'Voice Clarity' feature is DISABLED!

          PHONEBOOK:

If you have never used a S40 3rd edition Nokia before then you will find the phone book to be different. When saving names and numbers you are asked to enter first then last names in separate fields. In general, once you enter something you have to press 'Next' to move on or press the down key to go to the next field below until you reach the bottom where you have 'Save' & 'Cancel'. I rather my old 6230's way of saving contacts BUT this is not a major setback. The beauty of it is that you can select 'Close' at any point in time when entering contact information and the phone will ask if you would like to save.

          MENU:

The menu is fast and responsive as the average s40 phones. For this 3rd edition of series 40 the menu is more customizable. You can even customize it to show 'Active Standby' which is found in S60 (Symbian) phones.

          CAMERA:

I'm a imaging person so I'm usually fascinated by cameras, whether it be cell phone cams or any other type. The camera takes excellent photos. Very detailed and clear photos are produced once the lighting is good. If you are indoors or lighting is poor you will see some noise in the photo...they are still clear enough though.

I don't mind NOT having a flash for the camera because ALL cell phones camera FLASH are a joke. The real FLASH is what you find in a standalone digital camera.

Nokia decided not to waste any money putting in a flash because it's just a total waste!

          VIDEO RECORDING:

Video recording is good, not perfect but still better than I expected...once the video mode setting is set to 'high'.

          VIDEO PLAYBACK:

Video playback is good I must admit BUT you WON'T be able to play videos unless the resolution is 176x144. Even so, the quality of the videos are lovely ESPECIALLY if you encode them using the High Definition codec H.264. I'm able to watch DVD-like quality videos on my 6300.

          MUSIC:

The stereo on the 6300 sounds sweeeettttt, fantastic, amazing. I see it as being high fidelity stereo. You hear the bells and chimes clearly! Once, I used the headset and maxed the volume and my ears hurt shortly after because of the sharp stereo sound.

The Music Player is the exact one used in the Nokia Music Express line phones. It reminds me of Windows Media Player. The music is as excellent as it gets...as WAZOMBA said, his Sony Ericsson Walkman audio quality is the same as 6300 audio quality.

          RADIO:

I'm yet to try the radio but it's stereo just as the music player.

          BATTERY:

Battery life is good once you DON'T use the multimedia features constantly.

That's a fairly thorough and in depth review without writing a book.

            To AMERASIAN29:

You said the Euro 6300 is P12500 and the Chinese version is P5500 which means that the Euro version costs P7000 more. As I said before, purchase whichever version you can afford, all I know is the my Euro 6300 is of the UTMOST quality.

Even if you decide to go with the Chinese version I'm sure you will still enjoy it because I haven't heard any crucial complaints like reception or call quality.

              To SYAM:

It is known that chinese made products are inferior than to that of other countries...for most things.

Japan on the other hand is a totally different story.

Look at it this way and I will stray from the topic a bit to induce my point, an example - on the topic of motor vechiles, where Toyota is concerned, the Lexus brand is supposed to be the premium class, which is it BUT, the Japanese version of America's Lexus has more features than the branded Lexus which comes from America.

The point I'm making that quality/features varies from country to country EVEN when they are supposed to be the same exact thing.

Back to the topic of phones, Chinese are known to use less inferior parts or less expensive parts...so to speak, hence the reason why they are able to sell it for less compared to it's European counterparts.

As AMERASIAN29 said, Chinese made 6300 is cheaper by half price of those made in European countries...now SYAM, why would the Chinese version be cheaper if the parts are of the same quality as the Euro versions.

As I said before, I did comparisons with other phones and the screens from the Chinese versions were pale, lacked colour and were too bright. I specifically did a comparison with the legendary Nokia 6230, I compared a Chinese unit with a Euro unit side by side. NUFF SAID.

                To AMERASIAN29:

I found the exact quotes which started the Hungarian and Chinese/Asian debates. Let these quotes from the month of April shed some light:

                --------------------------------------------------

for me, its a good phone. i've been using it for 2 weeks now ( bday gift ) its cool...look so shala.batt life its good i dont have problem with it. its just how you charge your battery guys!!! GO FOR IT!!!

                *2007-04-19 15:18 M{3J* *KRIZZY*

                --------------------------------------------------

one more thing: if ur going to buy 6300 made by nokia,it will be diff from made by hungary or germany.if u purchased 6300 which made by nokia,it will give u not good quality of sounds. but if u purchased not made by nokia it will give u great quality of sounds..though made by nokia has a pouch inside the box...

                *2007-04-19 16:24 M{3J* *krizzy*

                ---------------------------------------------------

Made by Nokia" means it is made in China...
                BEWARE!!!!

                *2007-04-19 18:01&* GgL0 *nokia*

                ---------------------------------------------------

Krizzy is absolutely correct. There is a discernable difference in quality between phones made by Nokia(China made) and those made in Germany or Hungary. Ex: just examine the keypad of 6610 in a chinese made set and then compare it with a Finland produced one. I got so good at it that i would tell out a chinese one just by looking at front panel. I have always insisted on euro made set even if i have to pay a few bucks more to the dealer.

                * 2007-04-25 09:09 wp7x* *Ashwin*

                ---------------------------------------------------

                To KRIZZY & ASHWIN:

I have said many many times, the European phones are the best. For example, when I compare my Nokia 6230 (made in Hungary) to the US version or Chinese version there's a huge difference in screen clarity. The US/Chinese screen is too pale, lacks colour and is too bright when compared to the Hungarian 6230 that I have. That is why I always insist on the European made phones. Anything less is uncivilised.

                O.J.

next time, i will buy a phone, most important will be batterylife, this is so frustrating, i mean so frustrating.

you dont have control over it, when you leave the house make sure you bring a charger, otherwise it will die on you.

the bar is only charged when you wont use it, but i want to use it, so this is ridiculous, if you go only one time in internet for a couple of minutes, it willdrain completely the life out of this battery.

Dont get seduced by the price because its so cheap, is it worth a whole year of frustration, i mean come on, pay extra money and have at least rest.

nokia always pulls some sh*t, then there is something wrong with this then with that, no respect for customers i say. bye bye nokia, hello SE here i come.

6500 classic is a better buy, this device will give you garantee to make and receive calls over the whole world, garanteed!

it has 1 Gb, it looks mature and ver very stylish, not like SE, SE looks childish, my little nephews walk around with SE's.

when you look for phone, always make sure reception is excellent and battery is optimal.

6500 classic: dont know about the battery, but telecommunicationwise its the best cellular around and best to trust.

                                      To AMERASIAN29:

The chinese version is NOT as wonderful as the European version. The Hungary made 6300 is an exceptional model. German made version is said to be excellent as well...any Euro version should be just as great.

Here's a quote taken from an opinionist called ASHWIN back in April 25th of this year

"There is a discernable difference in quality between phones made by Nokia(China made) and those made in Germany or Hungary. I have always insisted on euro made set even if i have to pay a few bucks more to the dealer."

Maybe this quote from ME on the same date will also help:

"I have said many many times, the European phones are the best. Anything less is uncivilised."

AMERASIAN29, if you can only afford the chinese version then go ahead, great phone just the same. For the record Mobile-Review.com reviewed a chinese version and they gave it great ratings just the same.

The thing is if perfection is a must then go with Hungary made or any other European made 6300.
