OK I've received the phone and I'm using it right now. It looks a lot better in real life than it does in the pictures.
I have quite large fingers but thankfully the buttons are the right size for me. The buttons are quite light to press but still precise. The operating system (Series 40 5th Edition) is smooth and fluid and I've not encountered a single bug or crash so far. There's loads of options and settings for everything so you can tailor it to your needs.
The screen is stunning. Perfectly backlit, very bright, crisp and clear. The sound output is also very good and the vibration of the phone is strong and sharp.
I've not yet tested the sound quality of the music player through headphones or the camera/video function of the phone. I'm not expecting it to be stunning in that respect but it is a mid-range phone after all.

This phone is available to buy in europe but not in the UK. Not even the Carphone Warehouse have the phone listed at all. I found a supplier who is shipping me one from France for £160 inc. delivery.
Checked the UPS tracking number and it's arriving today. I'll let you know what I think of it.

Only problem is see is video recording (QCIF). Why not VGA like 6233, 6288 or N95? Those are the ONLY Nokia phones I have seen so far that records video in that format! Why use prehistoric CIF when VGA is already available? and VGA is 12x better than CIF!

BL-5C ??!! Isn't this the battery that keeps on exploding all over India? Even Nokia phones switched off while charging are exploding.
Not only this but also BL-4C [N6300, N6301] batteries are also exploding.

I just talked to someone who has this phone. With Bluetooth on, the stand-by time is reduced to around 55 hours and the talk time to around 1.5 hours. With Bluetooth off, it's more like 120 hours stand-by and 2.5 hours talk.

I have read reviews that the battery doesn't last long. Especially when Bluetooth is on. Has anyone experienced this?

I have this phone for about 2 days and find some features really inadequate. For example, there is no way to program in a Calling Card to make international calls cheaply. I also find that battery drains quite quickly, especially with bluetooth on.
Besides this, I think it's an awesome phone.

No, this phone does not have a video camera. It was made for AT&T (U.S. Carrier), who are not big on video calling.
A separate unlocked non-US version is available soon, with W-CDMA 850/2100 MHz, rather than 850/1900.
The worldwide standard 3G frequency, 2100 MHz, is not available for cell phone usage in the USA, so AT&T uses 850/1900 MHz, and T-Mobile USA uses 1700 MHz. Other US carriers use CDMA/EV-DO rather than GSM/WCDMA. This all means that phones sold in the USA are largely specific to each carrier, and that the choices are quite limited. This particular phone happened to be developed primarily for AT&T's network, although it is a quadband phone, and should work on GSM (2G) networks worldwide.

There is no video calling function, only 3G for data transfer.
I've found out that the european release date is 15th October. It was 3rd October but it's been pushed back for some reason.

@Chunky Charu:
You might want to try 6233/6234. That is the closest design I can think of that is comparable to 6555. If you're looking for 240X320 screen resolutions (which is really good) that are the same as 6555 screen resolution: Go for 6500 classic, 6500 slide, 7500 prism, 7900 prism, 6300, 6301, 6270 and 6280. Good luck on your choice.
