MP d man , 09 Sep 2012Please do 3rd party applications work well on this phone?so far i've tried the 2 apps i've mentioned. they are 3rd party apps produced n made compatible with symbian..
i believe as long as the 3rd party apps comes in .sis format there should not be a problem.
but i dont think i want to install apps created for symbian s60v3 and s60v5 to symbian belle phone although they are in .sis file format too. cos i'm not sure the compatibality.
i tried once installing a game in .jar or .jad files got it from opera market... but i prefer to avoid this type of files too.
conclusion are:-
- install only .sis apps
- nokia 701 got the installation setting that will check the certificates of the to be install apps ( i think you are familiar with since you own e6 previously)
by the way i'm only to upgrade to fp1 in or two days . cos i just want to feel the original belle. and its a great experience.. and lots of other user mentioned fp1 is a greater experience...

Although we closed the application, still there hidden file open in the background
(eg apps are:
1) camera
2) World Psiloc Traveller)
To check this issue i'm using 3rd party task and file manager:
1.SWISS MANAGER PRO downloaded from Cellphonesoft.com
2.Best Taskman downloaded from Smartpohoneware
Both has been installed in my 5800 and 701.
(some people will use xplore, netqin, clean, y-task,y-browser etc)
As i'm typing
> my 5800 shows
Running programs - 2 ie two open apps ie homescreen and pocket lock
Running process - 119 basic items ie the internal and hidden programs used to run its home screen,clock, autolock, telephony, touchinput, signal and so on to keep the phone alive.
Running threads - 197 items. this are completely hidden
> my 701 shows
Running programs - 4 ie two open apps ie homescreen and pocket lock and another two is screensaver and fsmailserver.
Running process - 153item ie the internal and hidden programs used to run its home screen,clock, autolock, telephony, touchinput, signal and so on to keep the phone alive.
Running threads - 315 items. this are completely hidden
so when you opened your fav apps, more running process and threads will be activated resulting ram consuming..therefore your phone starts to slow down and then when its too much to handle by the processors its start
-to give message "memmory full"
-your phone will shut your running apps
-your phone will restarts
-or else if the processor is jammed your phone will freeze.
so to manage the above problems,this is where the 3rd party task manager is important to me.
the built in file manager (by pressing and holding menu key) will only show the opened apps but wont show details of ram consumed by individual running apps and hidden files that running or left running after you've closed your apps.
for eg. i prefer to used opera mini than opera mobile cos opera mobile will consumed more ram. the internal web browser also consumed lots of ram.
last time when i installed the spb mobile shell in my 5800 in consumed more than 20 mb of ram while opened leaving me less than 25% of ram to operate other apps.
nowadays i 've more than 40% of ram ie 40mb to play with in my 5800 and currently 57% of ram ie 288mb to play with in my 701..
when i newly bought my 701 it running on 297mb of ram and after installing few apps it drop to 288mb..
this also mean installed apps especially those with autostart will consumed ram.. since more ram will used to run the hidden process.
Try avoid installing junk apps.
these hidden process will also eat up your battery...so you can see why people are complaining their mobile is power hungry.
my three year old 5800 still use its original battery and still give about 2 days of usage which is normal for a smatphone.
in 701 i noticed that its the 6 homescreen will eat the batt. and worst if you place live widgets on it.so just reduced your homescreen and avoid too many or unnessary widgets on it.
go to "allaboutsymbian.com" for tips& trick of your mobile. there are reviews about 701, symbian belle and bell fp1 too..

to use a smartphone,you must be first of all smart.
only then will you not experience any so-called hanging.

Unless that my own is factory fault. Because i don't use upto two days. And some by application like my c5 i used for 2 months no hanging then i guest it may be application i formatted and everthing was alright. And like my old c5 with 128mb ram it don't hang instead of hanging all the opened will close when i want to application like realfootball 09hd. Or if i want to browse it wil say memory full close some application.

there's no hang or freezing in this phone.
When ever you own a smartphone its all about ram management
i still own my 5800 XM it comes with only 128mb ram, yet it seldom restarts or hang. My record of my 5800 to selfrestart is after 20 days of continious usage.
Nokia 701 comes with rich ram of 512mb and thats plenty..
Ok i 'll add more later.. Until then...

And if you happen sometime crash is because the mobile phone is something that is making war, for that advise thyself 4 things you solve completely: 1 - format micro sd, 2nd format memory mass; 3rd application manager removes all those that are not accurate and that the later you are going to have ...; 4th the final shot: * # 7370 # ....

Please users! Is this phone really hang? Please tell me because i want to buy it . I had problem of hanging in e6 and sold it back . In that e6 when i install 5 to 7 applications the phone will start hanging especially when accessing menu when scrolling down after scrolling the menu will turn upside down then i sold back and start looking for 701 but if this one suffer this same thing please suggest me another affordable one. For restarting the e6 constantly restart itself after i hacked it. So help me tell me this one do the same thanks in advance.

nokia 701 is the best. in fp1 all apps works excellent. i am waiting for fp2.
