The Nokia 7710 is most useless phone that i"ve ever come across with.It is slow, has low battery life and in fact big for nothing.

Display Mode: Enter Control Panel, click on Display Settings and reduce the Brightness to half. This is supposed to preserve a lot of battery life if you're concerned.

RDS is Radio Data System and is a means of transmitting limited data with the broadcast (such as the station's name). It can also be used to allow you to listen to the same station while travelling through a number of different coverage area.

Visual Radio however is a subscription based system which relies on a network connection to download text and images to you your phone which relate to the music station you're listening to. E.g. you could see a picture of the band playing, the lyrics of the track and a bit of history about the group. Like I say, you have to subscribe to this and it has to be avaialable in your area. I think Virgin FM do it in the UK, but that is all I think.

Joseph: I read all that nonsense about 2.5 hour battery life if used all the time before I got my phone and it nearly stopped me. The truth is, it is NOT TRUE. The one thing that does kill the battery is taking photos. If you take constant photos, then I doubt it will last more than 2.5 hours, but this is normal for a phone. However, if you take a few photos (say 40), play some games (couple of hours) and use the apps and make some calls, it will usually last you a couple of days, certainly one. I have used it constantly all day (listening to the radio, reading books and playing games) and have only used up two bars. It does not have a problem battery wise (camera aside).

The phone is comparitivley slow, but that is because it has the biggest screen of any phone to update. It is faster than any phone I have had so far (my last was a 6600) and I only have problems using the PDF viewer and slovoed. Its also slow to open a directory with 50+ photos in it to show as thumbnails, but then so is my PC. Its, not blisteringly fast, but its not a tortoise. Its just doing more than the average dumb phone. It is at its limit though playing Sonic the Hedgehog with sound. For me, the best thing is the large and touch sensitive screen and the camera. The lack of software is frustrating, but I have enough to be getting on with for now. You can also play flash and java games on this phone of which there are hundreds alongside the 100's of megadrive games and 600+ MAME Roms.

Nexus: The p910i is an old phone and is past it really. There are more apps for it, but if you want a media player, get the 7710. It's screen is lovely and playback quality is definitley good enough. You can fit 2gb SD cards into it and fit about 8 full length films on that (iirc). You can also fit loads of CD's (about 80) and you have the radio and book reader as back ups. I have also heard the 910i has its fair share of faults. Friend of mine got rid of his 910i for the 9500 which he says is far, far better (he was bored with the 910 after a week).

Hope this helps. Got to work now.

                Narasimha,
Sorry i think i gave you info on the phone's availability.
As for the firmware, check your curent version by typing *#0000# on the phone. If it is 4.01.0, it is fine.
else you need to visit the nearest Nokia service centre to get it upgraded Free of cost.

                Arun

Right, im having a hard time deciding whether to get this or the sony ericsson p910i, btw im not bothered by the camera specs, im wonderin, which would u say is the better handset, excluding camera specs, is this handset known for faults or nething like that, mainly wanna use the handset as a media player device for watching films, which would be better. i know this handset is bit bigger then p910i, does this phone make up for that in features, etc

I love this phone`s screen, functions, but i read that the battery stays 2,5 hours if i am working with it all the 2,5 hours. And this phone is slow (I read in forums). Someone said that it is the slowest phone he had ever seen before. What about games? I can download Nintendo and Genesis emulator. Genesis games is very cool to me, so no problems with games. Programs? I don`t need them. And the Symbian software. I love this symbian version. It`s nice. So, should i buy this phone or choose another? (I was looking at Nokia 9500, but i don`t like the software of 9500. And the screen isn`t nice. 200 px is too small for 640 pix. 320 px with 640 px is perfect.) I would like to know your opinion.

Try taking the battery out for a minute and then power it back up. My phone "forgot" how to play media files once (I traced it to exiting Music Player in an unstable state) and this cured it.

If not, then you could try a reformat. Just backup your phone before you do this though.

i bought my 7710 last aug 8, 2005.. its a great phone w/ great features.some will criticise bcoz dey are unable to appreciate true technology... like they dont know how to close an application that has no Close option in the menu..(to close application just press the lower-right most button 5secs then the unit will display dat its Closing applications...) & just to name some other features that they dont know... this phone is only for hi-tech people w/ advance lookout to technology. that is...
drawback: only few downloadable software and themes (sold $10) hehehe.. :(

anyway..i look forward soon,,,to its greatness...

Nexus: When making a call, you click on Menu Icon and then select View -> Dialler and this brings up the keypad.

Arun: I have the latest version of PC Suit on my XP Standard (2nd edition) and Win 2000 machines. The older version of PC Suite did not work on WIn XP, but the new one does.

I have had no other issues connection my pcs and phones. I have just installed PC Suite and then put in the USB cable and it has worked straight away. I am aware there were issues with Win Xp and the earlier version of PC Suite with some people, but not with the latest. I did not have to install any USB drivers at all and windows XP did this itself. Try not installing any? They may be the problem if proprietary.

Sorry I cant be of more help.

                                    Hi WK (and other friends)

I have been having issues with the data connection with my 7710.
Last week, the phone got disconnected from the PC while doing a file transfer.
Then i had to do all jugglery to get it back.
I had to uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers to get it back.
Now it has happened again and I am unable to regain connection
All i am trying to do is to re install my OS !!!
Please can you guys tell me if there is some serious issue with the Data connectivity of the phone?
Else, are there patches or updates I need to download to correct this?
I am currently having the latest version of the PC Suite (6.6.16)
If there is a common problem with the phone, i will be very disappointed :-(

So when inputting numbers during a call, is there like a keypad icon, to get the keypad up on screen, or something along those lines.

Yes you can input numbers. I didnt think you could until last week myself, but when a number is required, you have to bring up the telephone keypad and enter the number on that. Its not the most intuitive thing, but it works.
