After years of redundancy, we have to admit, now Nokia really makes a great innovation. Bravo on that. I'm not really impressed about the bulky, monstrous camera, but the technology sure is impressive. Never thought a mobile phone would be able to take a picture with such clarity--not even standard P&S can match it.

But well, some aspects are sacrificed here--I'm mostly disappointed by the screen's pixel density.

For those who don't really like Nokia but want superior mobile imaging capability--like me--let's just wait till the technology trickles down to other brands of smartphones :D Until then, salute to Nokia!

AnonD-44251, 02 Mar 2012Even the most powerful mobile chipsets have an upper limit ... moreMay I ask, how much more do you know about this?
I have a theory about the 1 gigapixel processing:
1080p records at 30fps.. That means, 30 individual frames/shots per second. At 16:9 resolution, the highest Mpix count is 34. Multiplying it by 30/sec, you get around 1 Gigapixels in one second. So does this mean that the phone takes a 34Mpix shot, processes it to 1080p resolution, and it does that 30 times per second, flawlessly?

If this is true, then this is one stunning and amazing feat for a smartphone.

we made our autofocus system more precise, sensitive and controllable. You get continuous
autofocus in all shooting modes, but we’ve also provided easy access to an On/Off control. In Off mode,
the lens is set to hyperfocal, making it easier to get acceptable focus across a wide range of subject
distances while eliminating focus hunting. There’s also Touch Autofocus for video and still images.
In Creative Shooting mode, we’ve gone even further. A long touch on the viewfinder will bring up a
pop-up UI window, where you can select Automatic or Macro. Close-up focus is much improved in Macro,
while Automatic does all the work for you.

Even the most powerful mobile chipsets have an upper limit of
                        around 20Mpix image processing capability
The Nokia 808 PureView eats up more than double that.
For video, the amount of pixels handled through the processing chain is staggering — over 1 billion
pixels per second, and 16x oversampling. That’s a throughput of pixels 16 times greater than many
                        other smartphones.
Most smartphone manufacturers crop off a section of the sensor to ease the processing load.
By contrast, the Nokia 808 PureView has no limited field of view. Plus, it provides lossless zooming
capability, which is output resolution dependent. Full HD 1080p gives you 4x zoom

This phone is just not it. Nobody will buy a phone for the camera anymore. A phone these day must come with a great OS... just something thats not in this phone.

I do have to say that its great that a camera and a phone are smashed together into this wierd looking machine;).

Well see what the future will bring for this phone!

I might agree with you that the pixel density can look bad on the display. As for the 41Mpix, honestly, are you going to use the full resolution without transferring it to the PC or maybe display it on the TV to show to everyone? Nobody is required to take full 38Mpix photos. If you want lesser (8, 5 or 3 Mpix), then it is your choice. You rage about specs that you consider weak, but also rage about over-powered specs?

This is actual proof of how ironic people can be.

Nokia have gone mad .... seriosly a 41 MP Camera, but nothing else to match like cpu, memory, ram, screen, resolution, output ports, software ...

how in the world did they discover this ?

i think they were just tinkering and stretching the pixels and there was a blast resulting in 41MP and they just said wow lets release it ... ha ha :)

[deleted post]Uhm.. You seem to have replied to the wrong post. I did not say ANYTHING about dual and quad-cores lacking in performance. I did not also say that I am sure this device will perform as marketed. Read carefully, please!

As for your one question: Personal preference. If a person wants to buy this phone for its 41Mpix, would you say 'no'?

I'll tell you my real reasons for wanting this phone anyway: It is better than the N8. I wanted the N8, but because I was told by a trusted source that this is coming out, I decided to watch out for this. I liked the N8 for it's features, and since this is an improvement.. well... it might to safe to say that this is better than the N8.

first of all, 360 x 640 pixels and 184 ppi??? this just makes the phone suck and whats the use of taking 41MP photos when the screen sucks??? and then theres 512 MB RAM and single core 1.3 GHzARM 11. this phone is gonna lag and people will furiously hate that. I would just say this phone isnt a phone, its a camera and these specs dont beat any android or apple phone , this phone is gonna suck.
