Nokia 8.1 spotted on GFXBench, rocking a Snapdragon 710
HMD Global has been on somewhat of an announcement spree lately, unveiling the Nokia 7.1, Nokia 3.1 Plus and, most recently, the Nokia X7 (7.1 Plus) in a matter of weeks since the beginning of October. Now an intriguing GeekBench listing appears to detail yet another upcoming HMD device - the Nokia 8.1.
It's a pretty fresh test run as well, dating October 19 and, better still, a surprisingly detailed one. Instead of a codename, the device appears with its full market moniker. Some other hardware details include the Snapdragon 710 chipset, also properly reported with a legible model number and a base frequency of 1.7 GHz - exactly as expected, since GeekBench tends to pick up the lowest clock speed clusters in a chipset. The reported results also fall in line nicely with what can be expected from the decent, mid-range chipset, which also offers solid battery efficiency thanks to its efficient 10nm manufacturing process. Memory also appears to be reported properly by GeekBech, at just under 4000MB, meaning 4GB of rounded-up system RAM on the Nokia 8.1.
If this all sounds very familiar, you are probably thinking of the Nokia 7.1 Plus (X7), we mentioned earlier. It also uses the Snapdragon 710 chip and has 4GB off RAM in its base configuration. We can only assume there are differences in display size and battery, to name a couple of points. But, we'll just have to wait and see for sure.
Last, but not least, GeekBench claims the Nokia 8.1 runs on Android 9 Pie, out of the box. This is pretty great news, especially coupled with HMD's continuing dedication to the Android One program and timely updates. However, that also makes the new Android version kind of expected, especially now that the Nokia 7.1 was also recently spotted running Pie.

I bought a Nokia 8 for 350usd. For that price everything is excellent. Camera, screen, battery, speakers. Specially the speakers. Would never buy the 8.1 unless it has snd 845 and 6Gb Ram.
