I think that it is nokia's fauly on supply. I know that the people at o2 are, in the most, very helpful and its a shame people cant take what they say at face value. I personaly wouldnt touch this phone as it is too expensive for what!?!? Its stainless steel not silver, the K750i is a far better phone, the 8800 is for people who pose (chavs).

in response to ian; i have the nokia 8800 from vodafone and got it directly from them. the handsets vodafone had had to be sent back to nokia and were being fixed there last week. the thing is though, that because it seems like a large number of handsets, nokia are returning them in smaller amounts gradually, rather than all at once. i was one of the first 10 to order with vodafone, kept calling them every day, and that might be why i made sure i got the phone so early.
a friend who also ordered the phone from vodafone (about a week or so ago, so not at the very first opportunity) is still waiting for their handset. if you want one soon, the best thing to do is to try and place a back-order.

does anyone know when the australian stores will have any in stock? apparently they're all waiting for network approval but they all say they can order it in which should take about 2 days. y don't any of them have it in store to by sim free now? that way u wouldn't need network approval. any help would be appriciated.
i've also noticed that when negociating price with store owners they say the rrp is $1700 but they don't have a problem with doing it for $1400, y do egar to discount when they haven't even seen it yet.
i played with the dummy phones that some stores have already and the 3 things that have me questioning is the *0# keys been too close on the slider to press easily, fingerprints and the middle button on the directional keys been too small (it's not like i have big hands) can anyone who own one comment on these 3 issues and how they deal with it
well i hope someone can help me with my querries.
PS anyone in aus have an 8800 already?

I was told by Phones4U yesterday that Vodafone still hadn't sorted out their software to enable the phone to support the network.
Is this the case, or was the flirty sales assistant just trying to get me to buy it on O2?

In reply to Graham...you obviously dont have one! All the positive comments are from owners of the 8800 and the negative (jealous?)comments are from those who dont. I own one and the build quality is very good, it feels/looks SO much better than anything else. Obviously there are phones with better features but the camera/video is still very good and the arguement about steel cutlery is pointless...most phones are cheap and made from plastic.

It's cheap stainless steel, has a poor camera, no upgradable memory, is very heavy and the buttons are not the easiest to press. It also starts looking grubby very quickly due to the material used. I peronally would steer clear, its nothing special and there are other handsets with much better features such as the Samsung D600, Sony K750i and W800. Even the Nokia 6230i is better! At the end of the day, the phone is made from stainless steel, same as the cutlery in your kitchen, so what?!!

For the people who are in London & want the 8800 phone SIM free then your best bet is to go to Egdware Road arabic stores they have thousands there but at a price. you will need to check if it's in English depending on your nationality.

Hello Nadno
When it comes to o2 you have to only speak to supervisors as that shows you mean business. Once you speak to them. You just advise that you have been told so many stories by different operators You want them to Confirm when it comes in & want one sent out right away. State your rights as A valued customer & the service being received is appauling. State that you want to make a complaint & want to be contacted once received or you will cease the service(it works I done it)

I am now also a lucky owner, really is a fantastic phone, much better than reviews/pictures on the internet. Got mine from Vodafone, did take 2 weeks after I ordered it though..much better deals than O2 as well...so well made and unlike ANY other phone including the V3 everyone keeps going on about...it really is an eycatcher, people do notice it and ask questions.

This phone is taking to long to arrive in SA. Is there any cellular shops in Heathrow airport that might have 8800's to sell cash outright. I'm going through Heathrow 1st week in August. I cannot wait any longer for this phone. Its amazing. I want it.... NOW!!

i've been with o2 online for a while, but had to switch to vodafone. didn't even know o2 online were doing the handset (it's not on their website even as coming soon). also, vodafone have stop the clock, 6 months half price line rental, cheaper handsets and just generally better deals for new customers.
i did place the order with vodafone on the 8th (although it wasn't in stock then) and expected it in no more than a week's time. received it on the 22nd, but it was sent friday - basically a 2 week delay, because at first it was meant to be out on the 6th.
as someone said (although slightly exaggerated) below, the networks will send say up to a thousand handsets back to nokia to get sorted out, but because of this massive sending back, nokia are only able to send out a small amount of handsets each time.

To everyone waiting for O2 to give them their 8800, I phoned up about 10 time and as everyone has experienced got different excuses every time. I decided I was going to switch to vodaphone and still couldn’t get the phone. I resigned myself to waiting until O2 decided to get their act together. Then as I walked past my local O2 store on Saturday I though I would ask just in case......."we have 3 of them, want one?" I didn’t believe the guy until he showed me! The phone is better than I could imagine, but be warned the battery life is a lot shorter than I expected about 16 hours with normal usage! No wonder there is 2 batteries. It makes my old phone the Razor V3 look cheap and plastic!! Good luck getting your hands on one!!

i received my 8800 this morning, and it wasn't quite what i expected.
it was about a million times better. all of those pictures on the internet don't do it enough justice, nor even do various review videos. just looking at it and holding it, you can tell that it's a fantastic piece of design and engineering; it's beautiful.
a reincarnation of the groundbraking designs nokia dominated the market with pre-2001.

Attn 02 People in the UK.
I have been at o2 throats to get my phone & have had it a week.
I was on the first ever order but they advised that they didn't dispatch it properly.
I threatened to take them to the OfCom(who used to be OFTEL) they not only gave me the phone for free but 3mths insurance, double minutes, double text & waived 3mths line rental.
You have to be rude to them as they are not truthful to their customers(been with them since 96)by conflicting information.
The 8800 is a brilliant phone & will be a classic. It's got enough features for a goodlooking Model.
The battery doesn't last long but so what it's the 8800 & I didn't pay for it.

The 8800 is a brilliant phone. I used one during a Nokia expo here in JHB. I cannot wait for this phone. We having major stock issues. Apparently the phone is in heavy allocation and the production line is not good enough for demand.
