hats off to Nokia ..well done ! what a great looking phone.
i am due an upgrade in 2 months time and this phone has shot straight to the top of my list.
      cant wait
a note to all the people moaning about a supposed 'lack of features", get a grip,it has everything you could want|: bluetooth(a lack of this stopped me buying its predesor) , video record and playback and a camera. granted it hasnt the largest amount of megapixels etc,or a huge memory but who really cares..the fact is that it does all the basics with a few luxurys thrown in too. i dont need my phone to have mp3,as i have an i-pod. i dont need a portable computer-i have my laptop.i dont need amazing quality photos or video-i have my digital camera....what i need is a sylish, well built, EXCLUSIVE mobile phone which will make the right impression in the business world....this phone is pitched at just the right level for us customers who will actually be buying the phone , as opposed to just talking about it and picking faults in forums such as this !

Can someone tell why the battery is 600 mAh only? The standby & talk time seem short compare to other Nokia phones!

The phone follows the 8910 which I bought because it was "titanium tough" and for the style. I gave up several important telephone features, however. Amongst these were : tri-band, speakerphone, decent internal memory, a backlit keyboard. While the titanium was tough on the 8910, the slide mechanism has given out after only 2 years. This is why I am hunting for a new phone. Nokia's non-candy bar phones are of such poor design that I considered going back to motorola, a brand I had previously thought to abandon forever because of their memo system.

Nokia, how hard can it be to come up with a flip phone that is solid? If you took the 8800, and substituted the slide for a strong flip cover over the keypad you'd have a great flip phone to add to the weak line-up non-candybar models. You could eliminate some size and weight as well.

The 8800 is a great addition to Nokia's weak model lineup. Some of the telephone features lacking in the 8910 are present in the 8800/8801, however, I wonder if the sliding mechanism has been made stronger. Also, voice dialing and a backlit keypad are basic phone features which would add more value than a camera. The phone is heavier that any of the phones with which I compared it (motorola, samsung, other nokias).

With this model Nokia has made great progress in the top of its line, but it still lacks a robust flip phone. In a sense, it has exceeded my expectations without meeting them.

                Dissappointed in Denver.

I think this phone looks great. As for the camera, I could care less. Many people rather have a small stilish phone than have a big bulky one that plays MP3's, records videos, etc etc. I have always owned the 88 series and well here is my future phone. I even emailed Nokia asking to please continue the 88 series and that many people I know care less about camera on their phone. This one comes with one, I honestly would like it even more if it didnt have a camera causing it to weigh less. As for the specs, yes it falls short to those of others, but you cant say others look better than this. For example the Samsung E720 has been in my eyes for a long time... right when I was about to buy it, this one is announced. While the E720 has many many more features, I like how this one looks better. I dont need all the features, I have a digital camera for pics, and laptop for internet. I dont need a crappy combination of both into a cell phone. All I look for in a phone is its size, weight, how cool it looks, and well one or two functionality extras. While I agree this isnt the phone for everyone, I sure see this being owned by older people who never use Java or internet from the phone and all those teenager-targeted features.

I agree with many posts, and disagree with even more. Just like everything else in life. People are more than entitled to state their opinion, but no need to do so in a disorderly fashion. Your bound to like certain phones, and dislike many others. Being a nokia fan myself, since many years, I find this exclusive phone to be amongst my collection in the near future. And as long as I am satisfied, thats all that really matters, right? Unless you want to make a fashion statement, and if this be the case, I must admit this 8800 to be a good cellphone to do so with.

Beginning of the quiet nice steel case 8800 adopts once more thinking of the most innovative design. It surely gives the customer a mere sense of briliance while carrying it. Everything's looks similar to what Nokia has already been involved with, but the market advantage 3G network feature is unfortunately missing.

I think it's odd that people are so concerned about how good the camera in their phone is or whether or not it has MP3 storage. IT'S A TELEPHONE!!! Newsflash: if you want to take pictures, buy a digital camera. If you want to have MP3s, buy an iPod. The Nokia is a fashion phone, not a miniature laptop. Get over it.
