The controversy this phone creates is great!!

In response to some of the comments below, I ccould go out and buy this phone tomorrow. The cost of gadgets is not an issue, but I am not gonna waste my money on a joke of a product like this. I certainly do not want one, despite just being told that I do!!

Your comment about at least 5 of your friends owning the phone kind of shoots down the 'exclusivity' argument (not that you have argued this like others).

Sure, if some of you guys wanna throw loads of money at this phone, do so, but get real when it comes down to recognising a very disappointing product.

I think the weight issue should never be addressed as a flaw of the phone. You try the phone out before buying it, therefore it's no excuse to complain about the weight being an issue. Just like the camera, you know its 0.5mpx, you know the weight is 134gms as stated.

To some people and alot of people I know, they prefer their phone to have some weight. Due to various reasons. I prefer it this way not too heavy, yet solid. Reason why I didn't purchase the Vodafone 903sh because I felt that it is too plasticky and light.
I like my phone solid and have some weight.

And 8910 was not feather weight, its 110gm, 24gms lighter than the 8800, I can't believe that its that FAR apart.

FIrstly, batteries these day do not need a full discharge. Neither do you need to charge it more than you have to.

2ndly, battery tends to use up faster for new owners, because they keep playing with their phone. I do..... after a couple of weeks, when the novelty dies off. You will find that the batt last longer.

3rdly the new firmware 3.78 indeed solve a few probs plus, the volume is much louder this time round. A few new options appears in the "Display" section.

Lastly, crashes etc, happens to a few users out there, I have atleast 5 friends with this phone and none have faced that prob.

It's your right not to believe all the negative comments on this phone but how can you explain the majority of these indignated,unsatisfied,disappointed people reviews?
Maybe you are in the minority of happy and satisfied Nokia 8800 people but this is Nokia 8800 - user opinions and reviews board and not a board for people that actually want or like this phone as you said.Nobody tries to slate this phone as you false realised and nobody is pretending up nothing.
I agree that many phones from other manufacturers are faulty but at least they are not so expensive as this phone.I know that you get what you give but this unfortunately doesn't happen with this phone.It's an expensive and not worthy phone.I wouldn't have a problem if it was a decent,reliable expensive phone.
I was an owner of all exclusive and high end/expensive mobile phones from Nokia product line(8850,8910,8910i,8800) and i assure you that Nokia 8800 is the worst phone i have ever used.The only phone which is a worthy, reliable phone from the above is Nokia 8910.That's why i have it until now.
I know that is only a phone but as a consumer i want the money i give for a product to reflect and worth its value.
Nokia should be ashamed for this Nokia 8800 rip off.

Full stop!!!!

P.S:I try not to convince anybody not to purchase this phone but to give usefull information as a user of this phone.

I dont believe all the negative comments towards this phone are fully justified.

The battery life is NOWHERE near as bad as some users are making out if you charge the battery PROPERLY. This means as soon as you get the phone do nothing with it but stick a battery in and charge it for an initial 16-24 hour period. For the next 3 charge cycles do a complete recharge/full discharge cycle. I followed this procedure and get AT LEAST 4 days standby during light/moderate use. I havent even touched the second battery in the box and will not until the first battery begins to die. The battery life is fine for all but the most heavy user, even then who realisticly is away from a charger for more than 2 days?

With regards to crashes/software issues etc etc I have two points to make. Firstly the new firmware (3.78) has addressed many of the (dubious) flaws in the software. Over the last 3 months this phone has never crashed/stalled/slowed on me once. It has been very reliable. Secondly they hype that the release of this phone brought about has meant that the software issues were massively magnified (how can nokia justify such a price blah blah blah). I can tell you that every phone I have had in the past has had software issues. I could name many phones from other manufacturers which have been rushed onto the market with known flaws, but because you get the phone free on a contract or for 20p on pay as you go people dont make such a fuss about it.

The nokia 8800 is a phone that is desired by many but not all. The people that feel the 8800 does not meet their needs dont bother coming onto discussion boards simply to slate the phone. Instead the people posting on here all want it, fact, many cant afford it so to make themselves feel better by pretending up all these issues that simple dont exist for the majority of 8800 users. But thats life, you'll always have haters.

I have had this phone since it came out, paid $1100 US- and i must say, i have never hade a problem with it. It is the best looking phone on the market, and i am very happy with it! Its a real head turner. As for the camera, people use digital cameras- no need for the phone to have a 2MP camera.

And all these complaints about the small memory for MP3s- heres the hint... purchase an ipod.

had the phone, got rid of it, pice of junk that closes when it wants, low sound quality, paied a bucket of money for it, everyone has one, not exclusive at all. wanna tell people that you have money - buy a rolex, and a decent phone - 6310i, 6230i, n70, not this. now i own a n70 - nice phone, does the job.

Exclusivity and design don't excuse high price over functionality and performance at least this phone could have.
Nokia should consider the money people give on this phone and create a decent and reliable phone as supposed to be.Complete failure from Nokia to achieve as the previous expensive models from this brand.
Oh,and another thing.This phone is not a jewel as someone said but a tragic fakery "jewel".

refering back to rant from 5 days ago, most of the comments by users of the 8800 back me up. so a quick recap:
1. its heavy
2. it gets dirty very easy
3.the scratch resistant screen actually scratches very easily.
4.its very expensive
5.it is basically a low end phone,clothed in a nice steel body woth a trick sliding screen
6. poor performance (and i am NOT talking about features here, purely its ability to make make calls and send texts without shutting down of freezing) -something it appears not able to do !

i guess the moral of this story is that image and marketing people have really triumphed with this phone, charging people lots of money for a low end nokia in a 'party dress' !
you people paying hundreds of pounds or dollars for this phone really are sheep following the crowd .you buy this phone cos its image 'says something about you' ...it certainly does, but it aint saying anything nice !

Talk about being sucked in by the marketing...

And besides, how can a phone (rubbish one at that) that has been produced in it's millions be exclusive!

The slogan should be "gullibility costs"...

LOL! So many negative opinions about this jewel. I have the phone from a month ago and it's the first phone, that i really loved. The ppl with the negative opinions - see only the review's title - "Exclusivity costs" - this phone wasn't made for fun and for everyone. If you don't like its feature - so go and get some Symbian Toy, but the effect on the others when you pull out your Nokia 8800 and Nokia N70/N91 willn't be the same. We are living in democratic world and everyone of us have the right to choose - so choose the one you think is best for you. I made my choice and it's Nokia 8800.

I have only one question to other 8800 owners - have you scratched your display? Because i did this to mine and i'm just wondering if it's repairable? Thanks for the answers in advance. Feel free to contact me via e-mail also.

I have used this phone for the last two months and i have the right to state my personal opinion.Surely is the worst phone i have ever used.
First of all this phone has extremely short battery life.You have to recharge it over and over again.
(2)Many software problems( eg:switches off by itself,poor camera,etc.).
(3)Heavy like a brick.It has not a titanium body case as someone said but stainless steel.That's why is so heavy.
If this phone had a titanium body case it would be light as a feather,such as Nokia 8910.
(4)Keypad isn't completely ergonomic
(5)Very poor performance even inexistent.

No more excuses for this phone.
I agree that this phone has good design but this doesn't help.
I don't care much, how many features a phone has but i want from a phone at least to have an adequate performance especially from such an expensive phone.
Also Nokia 8910 is in the same exclusive and high end line product but is a reliable phone and is worth it's money.
Although is an older model i much prefer Nokia 8910 in terms of design and performance to this Nokia 8800.
Really i didn't expect from Nokia to launch such a faulty phone and this phone has nothing to show except from high price.
If you want to have a good looking bibelot and not a phone go for it.

Hmmmm.....
Well no wonder nokia 8800 is a manly Phone with those gr8 looks but just look at the features.It doesn't avan has a megapixel camera in it and its weight (in 1 month u could increase 1 inch of ur biseps if u carry this phone)and because of the titanium body due to static electricity dust sticks on it too often so it really looks dirty.its price is higher thn the sky.if u ppl want my honest advice dont go for this phone coz i really regret after buying this kind of phone.Thnx GOD now i've sold tht out and right now i m using an N70 which certainly is a universal fighter from nokia.there r other cool looking phones too from other manufacturers which r worth for their price.So the bottom line is
"DONT GO FOR A NOKIA 8800"

I work in the gsm industry too and I had no problems with the 8800 if something is wrong u flash the phone and it's ok!Just for the record if u have some major problems with it nokia changes the phone with a new one(if it's scrached or lcd broken they won't change it ,it's u'r fault not nokia's fault!)So u can have problems like with every other phone from every company!

i work in the phone industry and let me tell you that the nokia 8800 absoulutly shocking. every 8800 that we have sold have come back, all with the same problems of freezing, switching off, and if you want customer service from nokia, ha! thats even worse than the phone itself. dont believe that they will replace it if the screen is scratched cause they wont. nokia are a great phone with the exception of the 8800.

I just bought the 8800 it is an excelent phone with great looks!Don't need more from a phone!I had the K750i but don't need so manny features u get bored after the first 2 weeks!

the looks of the fone excellent, but features r very poor to my expectations from nokia. i have paid £750 for this piece of metal which is no worth to me.

hi really, if your 8800 is scratched will the replace it because i heard scratch resistance and scrath proof are 2 totally different things so thats a question? please could anyone get bak to me on that one. also which phone is better nokia 8800 or samsung d600. again please coul you reply via email.

If you scratch your phone just call Nokia and they will replace it for you. It suppost to be scratch resistance.
