bought the phone (new for 700 euros), a little over-priced for a phone but it looks nice and feels nice in my hand when i talk with it. it has a limited battery life of one day, it comes with two batteris in the box. it takes time to change a battery with the other and in time the mechanism of opening will break i think so when i am at home i put the phone in the desk-stand (that has at it's bottom a blue light that is very nice)to charge, or when i'm in the car i put it also at the auto charger. i must say that it has a very clear and nice screen that i've never seen on other phones and the pictures are very good too (for my needs). it is also ringing very nice and pleasant (i felt the first time it rang like there's a piano next to me). i won't change the phone untill the next 8 series model (in three years maybe) because it's a very nice phone and built with quality and care as i can see in every moment of use. in conclusion i recomend the phone with all my heart. cheers!

Yes Kaz, you only get about 52MB coz rest of the memory is covered by pre installed applications e.g. World Clock, Converter II etc

Ty you are pathetic! my gosh if a piece of metal like this gets you that excited you must lead a very empty life?

That is exactly what this phone is, a piece of metal. The money you pay for this phone is shocking considering the features it is lacking.

Ok fair enough its main focus is on looks but with a battery life of 1.5 hours, so bad they put two batteries in the pack for you!

You have to release you are seriously giving up the basic functions of todays phones for one that is double the price of any other on the market for what?...it looks nice.

Back to the real topic , the 8800..

Can anyone tell me if the phone's internal 64MB is inc. all the programs etc on the phone, or if the the memory you can ACTUALLY use is 64MB and all the programs are using different memory (e.g. When you buy a 1gb memorystick, you think you have a full 1gb of memory, but you actually only have 960mb, or something like that)

The first mobile phone I ever bought cost me just about a $1,000 and weighed about 5 pounds, swore I would never spend that for a phone again, until I saw the Nokia 8800. All though it weighs as much as my first phone, this phone is totally awesome. I love this phone more then my children. It is stylish, sexy and does not talk back. I think the phone companies now realize there is a market for high priced cell phones.

            "Where Stars Collide"

On the front page of this morning's "Calender" section of the Los Angeles Times there is a major article on the shopping habbits of the young and hip LA celebs. One key photo show a woman talking on a Nokia 8800!!!

There is NO doubt that this phone tells the world we have made it. It is THE symbol of success - and there is nothing wrong with that.

For those of you working to buy the 8800, keep trying. It is worth it. Don't be jealous of us - I'm sure if you work hard enough you can make you dreams come true.

Roby Dear, you won't even get a desk charger for 8800 never mind a 8800 hand set ;-)

I would strongly disagree that all nokia phones have faults. I have owned mainly nokia handsets and have had very few problems. My 6230i is flawless and has worked perfectly since brand new. Out of all the handset manufactures that i sell we have the fewest problems with nokia, by a long shot. Nokia is definately the most reliable, sturdy, and stable handsets on the market. SE and Motorola are at least five times more likely to fail. There has been quite a few problems with this particular Nokia but im positive all the bugs will be sorted out in future batches.

Maybe if we ignore Ty and his lies he may find another website to live out his pitful fantasies. Here is a tip Ty, you can't buy or impress your way to true friendship. I feel sorry for you. You must be lonely.

                      Kaz :

I am glad for you that your made up your mind to buy the 8800. I do not have the intention to mislead consumer not to buy the 8800......it was just my bad experience with all five of them!
The 1st one I had just turn itself off & then on again.
The 2nd one, when I go to camera; it turn itself off & then on again.
The 3rd one, when I go to video; it hang & turn itself off. Also the screen keep on flashing.
The 4th one have the reception problem......the phone rang for 1-2 times & when I want to answer the call; the call was already diverted to my voice message service!
The 5th one, the back cover was lose.......I took it to Nokia center but they have no parts at all for exchange, so I asked if I can buy a back cover, but they said no parts available even if I am willing to pay US$32.00 for the back cover!
One major problem is that all of them have the same software bug (try for yourself when you pick up your 8800) go to setting > tones > alert for & see for yourself.......I was unable to set group call ring tones!!!!!!!

For your information, the manager of my service provider is a friend because I am a regular customer & she told me today that all Nokia phones they sell/sold do have some kind of software problem (it is just a matter of how long it took you to find out the problem).

By the way, the manager reserved two NEC L1 for me & I am going to pick them up today.

BMW have the sound speed control build-in to the radio for a long time......nothing new!!!!!!

                        Ty
Harley Davidson have been using that kind of system for the on-board stereos on their "Electra-Glide" bikes for over 10years,i.e when you pull on the throttle to accelerate, the volume increases, and when you slow down the volume decreases. So that kind of system is OLD NEWS.Some versions of Car Blue Tooth units use your Car speakers etc, so Again... OLD NEWS.

I have just purchased this phone. It is great and goes great with my Maserati 3200GT. Had a custom made holder put in and it looks great. I get a lot of looks from both the phone and the car. Am thinking about get my other partners in my law firm these phones as thankyou Gifts. They are a great phone with great features.

"The Sweet Sound of My 8800!"

I just signed the contract to upgrade my car's sound systmem. As part of the package we're going to build in an adaptor so that I can answer and talk on my Nokia 8800 through the sound system - 2000 watts!!! Even with the top down, volume will be no problem. And - get this - the sound will lower and rise automatically depending on how fast I'm going!!!!

Has anyone else done the same?

Life does not get any better...

i was thinking about an 8800, but concerned over the 64mb on board memory. i cant understand why it isn't upgradeable, or has an MMC slot?

can anyone give an idea of how many pictures or how much video time can be stored on the phone before its full?

                                thanks in advance, gringo

Firstly i'm 29, and secondly I saw what you wrote, but what I don't understand is, you seem to hate the phone so much, and constantly whinge and moan about it, saying you'll never buy another one etc, and yet you let your mom buy one when it's such an awful phone, you want your mom to suffer the same phone trouble as you? as thats what it seems you are doing. There are Plenty of other nice looking phones, just for calling, but maybe now we'll get your mom posting and blasting the 8800 too. *shrug*
