I really like this phone. It functions as smooth as lotion. The screen looks phenomenal. As far as pictures, I love how they look. For the basics (not RAW), you can easily tweak here and there if you need to - usually for a little color or light differences. The colors seem more true to life to me than other phones that are geared towards beautifying selfies and what not. I have a Mate 20 pro and those photos are fantastic - the best I've ever seen on a smart phone as far as color "popping" zoom, and the usual cast of fun things. The Nokia is great in its realism. I think people are really used to the extremely dynamic overly saturated type pic that I get from my Huawei. I've already admitted I love the pop of my Huawei pics but I also love the "truth" so to speak, of the Nokia pictures.
I've never been a fan of biometric tech because I do believe it is captured and stored on a server somewhere to catalog all of us. I use a pin or pattern and it takes maybe a second or 2 to unlock my phone - which I can live with. If I don't have a second or 2 to spare, then I think my schedule may be booked too tight! :)
Day to day use is flawless. Super clear, super smooth, easy to navigate. I've watched a couple of movies - looks great. Projected onto the TV - check. I dunno, you can tell me that the processor is whatever generation (not the latest) and there's absolutely no way it makes any kind of difference in my experience. The phone has been solid, looks fantastic, connects to other devices, intenet, bluetooth no problem. And it's so smooth!

BearInFoxhole, 05 Nov 2019A phone with a lot of hype but epitome of failure. Battery ... moreYes, because DSLR's feet in a pocket quite easy. And why would anyone want to make a call when he has an DSLR? And of course let's not forget, a profesional photographer would rather pay 1400$ for an iphone that does good for an avarage person and DX0mark hen pay 700$ for a very well spected with a lot of potential device, whos camera actually can do a lot of stuff. Hmm, yeah you're right, this s'' people buying this devices.. they don't understand paper specs.

Now I know people will say theres is almost no difference in day to day tasks but why would someone purchase this over other flagships which provide upto date specs

A phone with a lot of hype but epitome of failure. Battery is appalling. Phone takes considerable amount of time to process photos which also effects battery. It is simply not worth it for quick snaps. Professional photographers would simply use dslr cameras or better pocket camera with more options and battery.
This phone failed miserably. Once this gadget is not new anymore, you'd look forward to sell it

Gino76ph, 11 Sep 2019I think because of the various issues associated with the 9... moreGo for Nokia 8.1. Guaranteed you will like it. I have for more than 6 months now and I'm very satisfied. The Low Light is very good even without light you can shoot pictures and it will appear very clear because of the Flash. The Finger Print is very fast and the same with the Fast Charging. Majority of my friends chooses my Camera when we are taking the pictures because of its Clarity. This is a Robust Camera and the only thing I can say about the down is, it is very slippery. So, go ahead and buy the Nokia 8.1 and you will not regret it. I might buy again another 1 as my second phone :)

The camera was fantastic, as Nokia promised. They seem to have forgotten that cameras aren't the sole ingredient to a great smartphone, though.
The USB-C port was made of plastic and either got loose or broke internally after less than 3 months of use. No huge drops happened in that span, mind you. Leaving the phone plugged overnight is no guarantee of waking up to a fully charged phone. There have been instances when the phone lost its power connection in the time it took to increase the battery charge by 2%.
While we're on the topic of charging ports, it feels worthwhile to mention that charging only works when the USB-C cord is plugged one way and not the other. This is very, very strange give that the format was supposed to be symmetrical to alleviate the old hassles of the microUSB standard. There aren't any issues with the charging cables, as they charge my Huawei Mate 10 Pro, USB-C powerbanks, Samsung S10+, and even Lenovo laptop just fine.
LTE bands doesn't seem to be fully world-compatible, on the other hand, with the data connection freezing every half hour or so with the telco companies I have SIM cards for.
Bought one for the camera, ended up hating it for everything else.
