Nokia 9 PureView: will it bend?

Vlad, 25 July 2019

The Nokia 9 PureView is still unique in the mobile world because of its seven cameras. And today it was the latest smartphone to be put through the traditional durability test by Zack from JerryRigEverything. So if you like seeing handsets get hurt, on video, sit back and enjoy this ride.

If for some reason you aren't able to watch right now, here's the skinny. The scratch test's results are nothing out of the ordinary: the phone's glass scratches at a level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper grooves showing up at level 7, just like they should considering this is glass.

The front camera is under the glass of the screen, which means it's very well protected, while the sides of the phone, as well as the buttons, are made from metal. On the back the camera sensors are under the sheet of glass too.

The burn test sees the OLED screen last for about 30 seconds when exposed to a flame before the pixels start turning white-ish, and never fully recover. The bend test results in a few creaks, when the handset is bent from the back, and when the phone is turned over and bent from the front the back glass looks like it's about to come off. But in the end the glass is still intact and the device still works, passing the durability test.
