Great phone from nokia. People have always wanted a asha phone with these specifications. If only nokia releases asha 501 3g with 3.5" screen with VGA screen resolution, 256mb ram, vga video recording @ 30fps, document viewer and removable 1300mah battery this set will be a lower end android killer phone. :-)

3 inches of screen, ??? too small, at this size they could add a physical qwerty instead of that big bezel

I like the design and dimensions, it reminds me of my xperia mini.
This phone's prime objective is to be cheap!
Nokia still has some prestige and influence left in third world class.
Not so long ago, those countries were unable to adopt spartphones with touchscreens and among their options, Nokia was considered as a premium one.
Before this feeling completely fades away, as they cant afford Lumias and Nokia's financials are still sinking.
They have invested this as a way, so they can monetarize their brand name, where it still holds some value.
Its a new OS noone will care making apps and games for and Nokia knows that. Ppl who cant afford 3G, will certaintly not be able to afford a game.
So the "apps" will only be what Nokia wishes.
Social, browser, music and camera should be enough for the casual third world country user.
The phone would also be able to perform calls and text mesages, thus covering all their basic needs!
And they will be proud that they are holding a cheap NOKIA and a not a cheap Chinese phone...
This is what this phone's role is, so CPU and RAM are irrelevant. For these dimensions, i agree it should have been a 3,3 incher, or it should have been at mini's dimensions, but it would break the price and stand by balance and Nokia is not interested to sell it in the west anyway.
They are just desperate to create some income, since they cant compete with other companies in the western hemisphere, with this line, they will focus on the parts of the world they can have a great market penetration. The costs will be minimal, cheap plastics, cheap chips, no fees for the OS and its apps,
for this price level the profit margain is limited anyway and everything counts, more RAM and resolution would make it impossible to create revenue.
