Engineer Man, 05 Nov 2010Hi Ketan. Thanks for your review & first impressions of... moreWell, C7 sound is clearer than 5800. There are no harsh sounding or distortion at full volume like 5800. Sound of C7 is not as soft as i expected and even though it's mono, it sounds pretty loud when kept with speaker facing up towards ceiling in a living room. Speaker volume and quality of n8 and c7 are identical. I couldn't find difference. Regarding bass, i didn't find any difference between 5800 and c7. I will again test tomorrow keeping both phone side by side. C7 is definitely a worthy upgrade for 5800 owner.

Hi Ketan. Thanks for your review & first impressions of the C7. Can't wait to get mine. I have waited 6 days so far.
You said the sound is better than 5800 but just not as loud. Do you mean it has more or less presence or is it a clearer sound. Is their as much bass as the 5800's speaker?
Everything else seems like your really happy with it. It does sound like a perfect phone & is only going to get loads better than S^1.
My only gripe is which phone has the better louder Speaker with moe bass etc.. I want it nearest to my 5800 as possible & how good the N8's loudspeaker is compared to the C7.
It would be nice to have a comparison over the sound because this is the only thing that stops me from leaving my 5800. I hope the C7 isn't much lower volume. Does 5800 seem to just block out the sound from C7 when put together?

I've been wanting to buy this phone. Please can someone explain, what is the difference in fixed focus and auto focus? which one is better? how to identify the drawbacks in the photos taken? Is fixed focus that bad, as I have heard lots of weird comments on this issue...
Its Rs 19000/- and I want to buy this. Please advise.

Here is my review as promised
1} Feel and build- Great in hand, really sleek, slimmer than i expected, feels worth 19000rs. No loose parts whatsoever. Touch sensitivity is way better compared to 5800. Still i feel sometimes that it will slip out of my hands, edges being very smooth.
2} Display- Great outdoors and indoor, doesn't wash out in bright sunlight, perfectly visible but Super amoled is better in terms of contrast and colour production. Attracts fingerprints a lot. Keep a cleaning cloth always.
3} User interface- Typical symbian but better than symbian^1. Transitions are smooth, screen rotation takes around 1 second though. UI feels familiar, camera ui is the only part where 2 taps are required. Hanged once when i tried to open an app while Asphalt 5 was getting installed. Had to take out battery.
4} Telephony- Signal reception is great. People on other side tell me that my voice is crystal clear, even with Tata docomo's poor network, hardly dropped a call.
5} Text input- Needs improvement in qwerty typing. No multi touch. I didn't use portrait qwerty in my 5800 much so lack of it didn't bother me much. Due to rearrangement of keys, it does have little learning curve even for me.
6} Gallery- Pretty smooth. Still on zooming on 8mp photos taken by cam requires 2 seconds for picture to become clear. While swiping, absolutely no lag. Has option of marking several files without going to options menu which i missed badly in my 5800. Random transition effects while swiping would have been great.
7} Music- Visually n speed wise very refreshing. My friends who own an iphone find it great. Sound output through mono speaker is great quality wise, even better than 5800's stereo but loudness is just about 70-80% of 5800's, still loud. Output through supplied headphone is also good but not great, lacks bass and doesn't come with remote like 5800's. Still passable. FM transmitter worked well so did radio.
8} Video- May be only me but it isn't playing avi and mkv well. 700mb dvdrip avi audio lags by 5 seconds compared to video and 1.5gb mkv didn't output audio which was in ac3 (dolby digital plus) format. I'm gonna format phone and mass memory n will update if problem goes awy. Video clarity is great and plays mp4 video upto 720p and 2gb size without any trouble. Video recording in good light is good but suffers weak illumination in low light conditions. Sound is great in both conditions. 1 min sample can eat upto 100mb.
9} Camera- Pretty good wfor casual use. Quality is good enough. I didn't have any problem of colouring like gsmarena. Daylight photos appear great. Low light performance wasn't good enough but just passable. Photos appear darker than realty even with night mode. Flash is bit weak. UI still requires 2 taps which confused me. Cam is definitely better compared to 5800 in every aspect. For casual user like me, more than enough quality.
10} Web browser- Doesn't lag after loading is finished or for pages say less 1mb size. Lags more than little but not much for heavier pages or if you scroll while page is loading. Flash content plays fine. Loading time for page is faster compared to 5800. Since i haven't used iphone, i won't comment much on web browser. Opera mini for symbian beta works really fine and i use that 90% of time.
11} PIM apps- I don't use these much. Works good, high standards. OVI store is better than 5800's.
12} Maps- I don't have offline GPS coverage in my city so can't really tell about this also. Sorry. Has to be good since v3.04 on my 5800 was very good already.
13} Gaming- Now this is where i really feel the difference between 5800 and c7. NFS shift is AWESOME, no other words. Angry birds though cartoonish is very addicting. Kept playing it till battery got discharged. Gameloft sucks as Asphalt 5 isn't as smooth as NFS n still it eats more disk space. I'm very sure that symbian^3 devices are gonna be grat platform for gaming. Just like iphone.
Can't comment on battery life since i have used it for just one day. Overall i feel C7 is very good phone, cheaper, cut down but better looking version of N8. If you aren't camera freak then C7 is definitely the choice.

Nokia should dump Symbian and choose Android. Its quality multi-media and camera features will be strengthened by a good OS with nice UI. Else, Nokia will keep making crap like this, whereas companies like Motorola will just move ahead of Nokia.

androidude, 04 Nov 2010superb specs, but its not android. symbian just plain sucks.but the specs on androids just suck.....because android cant deal with the specs you'll buy your oil in €€€€€ still bud

Sond quality through speakers is great. Loudness is 70% of nokia 5800 but via headset is almost equal. Worth buying. Will post full review later in the day.

This is just a transition to a whole new generation of Symbian OS. Symbian^3 is the beginning of a new evolution. Please, no offence, but Android still has a long way to go. Watch and see....

and as far as symbian is concerned first check drawbacks of android and then of symbian.
