I don't know what do you mean by the screen lights up but I have installed Nokia Sleeps and it uses LED light on AMOLED screen to show time and any misscalled and SMS.

      [deleted post]Wow, good link.
He/She does mention that there is a notification in the Standby screen but he fails to mention if the screen lights up.

      Hmmm...

But the reviewer below said that it does not light up, so unless someone else says otherwise, I guess I have to believe the guy who said that the screen does not light up when you receive an SMS.

Bought this phone last week. Nice interface and overall user experience but sadly the earpiece volume is too soft even at maximum (have difficulty hearing the opposite party), speaker volume too soft even at maximum (trouble hearing the ringtone in a crowded place) plus the vibration is too weak compared to the E71. Never missed a call or a message during years with my E71 but missed around a dozen calls and messages in the first week with this E6 alone.

Notification on screen should be no problem because you can install Nokia Sleep software. I have it install on my N8 and it works great. Not so sure about E6 but I am sure they will make it compatible as N8 and E6 run on Symbian 3.

Really Superb Phone. Can Be Compared With Blackberry Interface. E6 Works Very Fast And Display Is Also Very Clear. I Am Using This Phone Since Last Week And I Have Very High Usage.

                    Really Worth Buying This Phone.

Nokia Will Regain Market If Such Phones Are Produced.

I believe Nokia has done it again when it comes to developing a business phone after the E71 and E72. It is a good substitute from BB phones if you want similar task with different angle. Its one thing to hear and see reviews of the E6 and its another whole thing to experience it physically. The phone is build under good quality glass-scratch resistance material with a nice touch of metal surrounding the phone. Its a Qwerty/Touch phone and the first on the E-Series. I just had to write this hand-on experience as it's my first and the Nokia E6 is worth the review :)

On to business, the qerty keyboard is decent and well placed although BB phones are better and feels more natural. Call quality is good with absolutely no distorting sounds and quite clear, at least at my coverage area. The capacitive touchscreen is very responsive and is visible under direct sunlight. The lates symbian Anna software is the latest OS from Nokia and is proven quite user friendly and up to standards with current touch screen OS (Android and iOS). The VGA screen is very crisp and detail. Notification light is rather weak but still visible under dark places. I believe screen does not light up when receiving messages only the notification light will blink continously (can adjust under settings).

Battery is pretty good under casual usage (call, push-email, internet, music and downloading). More than 1.5 days using 3G netwaork but I am still experimenting it though. Battery can be maximised when 3G is switch off.

Personal emails (gmail, yahoo, hotmail) are so easy to set up with the phone and all attachments and pictures have no problem at all. Business users might love it as i have more than one email account. Just plain simple. The USB-on-the-go is great and is so good to be true. I can use my pendrive and access all the information via the phone and edit any documents with ease. Well the size of the screen is not ideal but it gets the job done.

The features and design are well suited for the casual business users as well as others. More could be said about the E6 and another highlight i have to say is the internet software. Very simple although better on a bigger screen as in Android but very fast in uploading and rendering pages (an improvement from previous web browser). However, on the contrary, one of the few downsides of the phone and browser is the heat generated during browsing and downloading. But I guess that is normal considering its on 3G network as I was told. Maybe should use 2G instead :) But then again, it gets the job done and a new experience from the new symbian phone with great build quality which could turn heads around. Albeit this, BB's QWERTY keyboard is still one of the best on the market and I have not come across any that can beat it. With the imminent release of BlackBerry 9900 later this year, now thats another story and a direct competition with Nokia E6. Really looking forward for that release.

The notification light is much much weaker than E72. The silver rim around actually blocks the light. You won't even notice you actually on it. The push mail function is not working on my set. Anyway, getting back to THE PHONE.

To those who have already purchased it, I would just like to find out if the screen lights up when you receive an SMS.

                              Thanks.

It looks to me that you are the one who is trying to cause trouble as I am only trying to find out about the phone so I can decide.
If you work for Nokia, I apologize for asking about your phone. If I did not read about reports and if it were perfect, I wouldn't need to ask anymore would I?

I am ASKING if the screen lights up when you receive an SMS because the NOTIFICATIN LIGHT is too weak as EVERYONE has been saying.

Just asking if the Screen lights up.

I don't see how asking about a simple functionality is asking trouble.
