There is a new Software Update for the E61.This is the third update.Go to Nokia Website and use the Nokia Software Updater.
With the problem regarding the keypad backlight not working in dark places,just do a software update and it will solve the problem.This problem was only on the very first E61's that were released in May 2006.My E61 had this problem but the software update cured it.

This is the best phone i've used, ever. This is my 6th nokia and my 10th of all. I've had others than nokia but this one really works! I had nokia 9500 before and it was the best so far but E61 is more stable. I had to upgrade the software two times but now it works as good as it will.

On nokia's website for software updates, they only list the E62 as a phone choice. I can't select the E61 for software updates, should I just download the one for the E62?
Can someone point me in the right direction for the software updates?

This phone is a NIGHTMARE!
I've had it for 7 months and I've sent it to its service center 4x !
Nokia mess this up BIG time.

am really getting this one...the problem is...i ve been using a Nokia 6600 and N72 for long..and the lack of a camera is an issue...however i would still go for it if the E61i is not out in a month.Just need some help.. can i configure my office outlook mailbox to it? and whats the max i can expand the memory without slowing down the phone? i love Symbian and i love Nokia but the Nokia service in India sucks... so do let me know if this phone has software issues coz i went through hell with my N72's software.

I have been actually very statisfied with this phone except one thing : the backlight of the keyboard disappeared about 4 montsh after I bought it in May 2006, a few weeks after it came out. It didn't bother me at the beginning and then I got used to it but now I wanna fix it while it is still under warranty. I read on the net that the problem is due to the fact that the light sensor gets dammaged after a certain time in the early E61s and it doesn't light up the keyboard in the dark anymore. There's other owners affected, I am not the only one.
Now you can imagine what the hassle is. I am on a 1 year assignment in Europe. I bought the phone off ebay while in Canada, from an American company, phonesource-usa or something BUT the phone came from Hong Kong. Nokia HK said they don't have it in their database, it doesn't exist in the USA by it's IMEI either so you can imagine the hassle and stress I am going through. Let alone I don't have the invoice anymore ...
And no shop would repair it.
Otherwise the phone is great.
If someone has the same issue or if someone could tell which nokia country I should contact, I would really appreciate. My email address is cesy@hotmail.com and I can reply with the IMEI and the code and all. Thank you.

I just bot the E61 and think its an excellent and nifty phone. However I downloaded themes from www.zedge.net that the phone doesnt seem to recognize. the only option to get themes seems to be thru internet downloads. Can anyone tell me how i can use the themes i downloaded to the phone/card? thanks

Its good to hear you were able to update your e61's phone software. SMS and email is much better. However, sorry but I don't know how to enlarge the contact list font. For me though its not a problem as long as SMS and email has better font.

ive found this phone to do exactly what it says on the tin....no issues with it what so ever, this is running on 3.
regarding nsm messenger....you can run QuickIM available as a free download at wwwdotquickimdotcom....i find it to have sufficient functionality, especiallly combined with wifi...the only 'niggle' is that the edge of the right hand character gets chopped off, other than that...fantastic!

I upgraded to the latest software and writing e-mails & sms is now much better. However, reading phone numbers in the contacts lists is still almost impossible, especially in bright light. Any ideas?

Re: sim card registration failed - Nokia E61.
Hello, turned on my phone this morning and was greeted by the message: sim card registration failed. Took the sim card out and put it in another phone. Sim card worked 100%. Took another sim card from another phone and put it in my phone. Did not work. Got the same message. HELP ! Appears to be the phone. Had it for 4 months, latest software and so far never had any problem. Does anyone have any ideas ? Brian

i told you that e61i exists but no one believed me. are you satisfied now ?
i already have it for 3 months now , and i dont change it with anything. its fantastic . i have also mobile tv on it , its provided by my 3g network . camera is fantastic. video recording in full screen is amazing. nokia e61 is nothing compare to e61i. so sell all your useless phones and buy the e61i

Robert,
Nokia E61 fonts can be enlarge by upgrading your phone software via the internet. Go to www.nokia.com and download the upgrade software for Nokia E61. When you finish upgrading, the fonts become bold and easier to read. So SMS and email is easier to write and read. The fonts are upgraded when you upgrade the phone software. Thanks.

Great phone EXCEPT for two problems:
Fonts are too small - how do you enlarge?
Background is too light coloured for white typeface. How do you change to darker?

I´m get a message of corrupt minisd card and when I try to format it nothing happens. I tested the card on a computer and it works fine (format, read, write) This is a 4GB minisd card. Is anyone using a 4gb card with this phone? Any suggestions? (formating paramaters, etc.) Please help. You can reply directly to my e-mail if you prefer.

I do not think that there is any builtin feature.....but I think there are some 3rd party security softwares available for nokia...which will protect accesing the inbox with "Password".
Trying searcing....You may find it.
